Temp Gauge Jumping up and down...Please Help

I'm having the same problem! I'm on a cross country road trip, and it was kind of freaking me out. After banging on my dash, it worked again for a bit...... but then went back to bouncing rapidly between where it usually sits and dead cold. My heater still works, and I haven't over heated yet...

What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

Bought the damn thing and drove her once.... Then a tree (branch) fell on her. But she's been in the shop for a bit.... and she finally gets out of the body shop tomorrow! Can't wait to put new tires on her and spend some quality time! Excited as heck! (Sorry, that might be cheating, because...

    removing stripe

I just bought a 2000 4runner with a gaudy pinstripe decal around the contour. I had an even bigger, gaudier one on my old jeep that I was able to get off fairly easily. (On a warm day, as the heat loosens up the adhesive.... and with 'goo gone' the orange stuff, as mentioned above.) It took me...

Does Any California Bay Area Member Need a Rear Axle Seal Repair?

I have had a couple people look over it, and the person who actually invited me to come take a look, when i looked..I didn't see any grease or wetness.. it just looked a little dirtier than everything else. He said it was brake dust.? The brakes were done recently. Could that be why? Or would...

Does Any California Bay Area Member Need a Rear Axle Seal Repair?

Would you say if it isn't wet, it's not my axel seal? Does it sound correct that the brake dust and no wetness could possibly mean my wheel cylinder? Can bad wheel cylinders lead to leaking axel seals? Are these problems related? Also, thank you everyone for the info!

Does Any California Bay Area Member Need a Rear Axle Seal Repair?

I've already planned on having my timing belt replaced, and radiator too! I've watched a couple videos on doing the radiator myself. Looks achievable, but I don't have anyone to look over my work... and I'm far too afraid I'll ruin my new rig if I make the smallest mistake. So I will probably...

Does Any California Bay Area Member Need a Rear Axle Seal Repair?

I'm not a bot. I just bought a 4runner. I'm still trying to figure out how this whole forum works... (as you can see I accidentally edited my post several times..) I am also a total car noob with a vagina, trying to learn! (Also, I was told it was the right/rear WHEEL CYLINDER not the axel...

    3rd Gen 4Runner Buyer's Guide

Really informative thread. Is there anyway I can bookmark or save it so I can come back to it later? New, and still trying to figure out how to use this forum.

Does Any California Bay Area Member Need a Rear Axle Seal Repair?

One of them even showed me, and showed me and little brake dust, but I didn't anything wet. I have no idea though. I'm a complete noob, and have only been trying to learn about vehicle mechanics for a little bit. I hope to one day be a bad-ass chick, able to at least do my own basic maintenance...

Hard to Kill 3rd Gen 3.4, 5 quarts low on oil

Too funny! I drove a jeep for a long time! Blew up right under 200k, and I just bought a 4runner with more miles than it had! 3.4l! Purrs like a kitten!
