    4wd Wont Engage

Mine did the same thing. It's a known problem with these trucks. Here's what I did to get it working: Start it up. If you have a helper, have them sit in the truck and engage the emergency brake and keep their foot on the brake (think safety). If no helper, then chock the wheels and engage...

    Backup Camera -Reverse Wire

Thanks for the help on locating the reverse wire. My son and I did the backup camera install yesterday. Easily located and tapped into the red/yellow wire in the drivers kick panel area. We're not totally thrilled about the camera location, as it it more noticeable that we had hoped. But...

    Daystar Budget 1" Spacer Install

I did not trim the existing bolts like the instructions said. Here is a pic of the installed spacer and one of the truck as it sits with it installed. Plenty of room and everything tightened up like it was supposed to. Biggest PIA is that inner nut on the top of the strut.

    Kenwood DDX470 Head Unit Install

Yes. You can plug memory stick with music or video and it will play. Also can transfer pictures to head unit and use as your background. It will also connect up a phone/ipod/ and play music using some of the playback features.

    Kenwood DDX470 Head Unit Install

Good news. I grounded the light green parking wire coming from the head unit and now everything is working properly. So glad I didn't have to order a bypass kit. I also connected the blue/white from the head unit to the blue on the Metra harness and I actually think the FM reception is better.

    Kenwood DDX470 Head Unit Install

I only soldered the radio harness to the Metra harness. For the others, I just did the twist and heat shrink. I'm going to pull the head unit this afternoon and try grounding the parking wire to see if that works for me. Also plan to try connecting the blue and blue/white wires for the...

    Kenwood DDX470 Head Unit Install

I used the Metra ASWC-1 as well. I haven't tried all the functions, but I know that volume, channel and mode all work with the Kenwood unit. I bypassed the front crossovers and used the ones that came with the new front speaker components. If the rear uses crossovers, then they're still being...

    Kenwood DDX470 Head Unit Install

My son just informed me that he keeps getting a message that 'Parking is Off'. I'm thinking that I must have connected the light green 'parking sensor' wire to the wrong thing. I've been looking on here and it seems that many just wire it to their common ground (black) wire coming from the...

    Kenwood DDX470 Head Unit Install

Here is the USB extension I used. From 3.5-USB Extension Cables with Dash Mounting Bracket :: Accessories So far, no issues with FM reception. I asked a local audio shop about the two antenna cables and he said to just use the larger of the 2. He claimed the 2nd cable was just a ground and...

    Kenwood DDX470 Head Unit Install

My son and I spent the last 3 nights doing a head unit and speaker upgrade in his 4runner. It's been about 25 years since I've done car audio installation and I'll tell you....it's a little more sophisticated these days! Here's what we installed: -Kenwood DDX470 Head Unit (DVD, Bluetooth...

    Backup Camera -Reverse Wire

Has anyone wired their backup camera reverse sensor wire to a wire in the dash? I've found several threads where they wired it to a wire coming off the trailer connector and wiring in the rear of the 4runner. I need to tap into a wire in the dash because my reverse wire is coming out of the...

Installing 6x9 speakers in front door

Great post. Are you getting any high & mid out of the new 6x9's? If you use the factory wiring, I thought that the only signals going to the bottom speaker were low's. That's why the separate tweeter is there. I'm about to do a new stereo install later this week and decided to go with 6.5"...

Front Door 6x9's With or Without Separates?

I don't have the JBL system, so I'm wondering if the crossovers are there. I guess I'll have to pull the door panels to confirm.
