    LBJ 2000 2WD - Toyota Technician Advised 'don't replace'

The point on the LBJ being a wear item that needs to be replaced after a certain number of miles is the issue I'm starting to question. I believe the service manual simply says inspect, but never has a 'replace' proactively. If the issues was really that bad, wouldn't Toyota have this as a...

    LBJ 2000 2WD - Toyota Technician Advised 'don't replace'

I've got a 2000 2WD 4runner with ~225,000 miles on it. Its had an easy life, never having been driven hard. Reading the LBJ threads - I felt like this was something I needed to replace just to stay ahead of it. I spoke with our local Toyota Dealer, Marietta Toyota (GA). The service guy I...

Death of a good transmission? (Bikini model click-bate incuded)

I'd find a reputable transmission shop and have them diagnose it before changing out the solenoid. I had the same code on mine - I had a shop look at it and $65 later found out it was just a little low on fluid - nothing wrong with the tranny. Sounds like your fluid is fine - but its probably...

Having trouble getting the 4runner to start, it's been a while

I had a similar issue with an old explorer - BUT - whenever that happened ALL power would be gone from the vehicle. Easy fix was to twist the cables on the battery. If the car still has power when this happens I still vote for the starter contacts. Give it a light tap with a hammer when it...

Having trouble getting the 4runner to start, it's been a while

When you turn the key - Do you get a click then nothing or just nothing? If it at least clicks it may just be the starter solenoid contacts. Lots of write-ups on the site for changing that - very inexpensive as well. That would work sometimes and other times not.

    Engine issue.

Have you pulled the codes yet? What is getting logged when the CEL flashes? How old are the plugs? I had a very similar issue where I got hesitation and the CEL flashing under load (although it stayed on). It threw a mis-fire code. I changed the plugs (which was past due anyway) and have...

    2WD Donor truck/frame? 4wd conversion?

I think there is a different version of the A340 transmission in the 2wd and 4wd. May just be a longer spindle - but not a direct swap. If the body and frame are good on the new truck - could you swap the entire drive train? Is your current 4runner a 4wd?

P0770 - Lesson Learned - Pink Milkshake Bypass

Detailed photos/diagnosis: The cooler was mounted at a slight angle which caused the lower line to rub on the bottom support. To fix this I simply clipped the two zip ties on the bottom and straightened the cooler putting in new zip ties to hold it in the proper angle. I also cut a piece of...

P0770 - Lesson Learned - Pink Milkshake Bypass

I may not get to it till tomorrow or Sunday, but i'll get some photos and post where I had the issue when I do. For me the mod went fine - I just had a rub that wore thru the hose (pin-hole) over a year+. Just make sure anywhere the hoses have the potential to rub on metal that you have good...

P0770 - Lesson Learned - Pink Milkshake Bypass

Stock transmission cooler still goes thru the radiator in the 2wd - so I think its the exact same setup as the 4wd with the same risk of pink milkshake. Either way - I like the external cooler as it keeps the fluid consistently under 200 (more like 170 most of the time).

P0770 - Lesson Learned - Pink Milkshake Bypass

I'll take a look tonight and post photos. Just got the details from the shop on what was wrong so I haven't seen it yet.

P0770 - Lesson Learned - Pink Milkshake Bypass

Typo - External trans oil cooler, not filter. Bypassed the radiator and went with the external cooler. I'll edit the original post.

P0770 - Lesson Learned - Pink Milkshake Bypass

I wanted to share a lesson learned. My 2000 SR5 2wd had popped out of R twice the past couple of days and then threw P0770 (Solenoid E). I went ahead and had a tranny shop do a $95 diagnostic before dumping money into a new solenoid as I didn't really know what was wrong. Issue: It was low...

    P0770 - Shift Solenoid E Malfunction on a 2000 T4R

I just got the same code on my 2000. It popped out of reverse into neutral when cold going over a bump. did it 2 times - not sure if that caused the code or the solenoid issue caused it to pop out of R. Those numbers seem really high though.
