sounds like the starter contacts to me. sometimes it would start and sometimes it would not. Windows, lights, and locks all work but it would not even crank or turn over.

you could release the e brake lever in the car while in park and get out of the car and look to see if both cranks are disengaging. when the e brake is "off", the bell cranks should be touching the back of the drums. i had one that was sticking.
