Do you warm up your V8 before driving?

When it's well below freezing, I'll remote start it and let it run for 5 mins then drive gently until it warms all the way up. I try to take it easy on any vehicle that isn't up to operating temp regardless of season. In the summer, it's fire n go. Toyota's 4.7 is one of the strongest engines...

    What else do you drive?

Harley for when I want to scare other people, built MR2 for when I want to scare myself :)

how thick is factory clear on 4th gens?

Every paint job is different, even if it's the same color on the same model. The history of your specific 4runner plays a role too. These trucks are getting up there in age so there's always the chance that it's been corrected or had some paint work in the past that you might not know about...

    !!Doug Thorley Headers 4.7L V8!!

Factory computer readings are known to be untrustworthy. Calculate it by hand and it'll give you an accurate reading. I did that and found a 1-2 mpg improvement which is what I lost from the bigger tires!

For anyone thinking of buying a Gibson exhaust, here's my review

Thank you Mr. Meme. I'm sure adding a resonator like Jonboy suggested will help with the drone if that's the main thing holding you back.

For anyone thinking of buying a Gibson exhaust, here's my review

That's odd, I don't have any whine sound on mine. Are you sure the muffler is pointing the right direction? I know that was mentioned on here in older threads.

For anyone thinking of buying a Gibson exhaust, here's my review

I've had the stainless Gibson exhaust on my V8 4runner for a couple months now and wanted to share my thoughts on it. There seems to be differing opinions here on the forums on whether or not it drones - and in my case it does. It doesn't annoy me enough to consider it a problem though. Overall...

What did you do with your 4runner today?

Took advantage of a rare 12C this afternoon and cleaned all the salt off of it. Feels great!

    Polar Vortex Cold caused propblems

I killed a battery, but that was it. My MR2 was kind enough to lend its AGM battery to the 4runner since it won't be using it during hibernation.

Gibson catback exhaust for 4th gen! Labor day special starting now! Video attached

Just got mine on today and that's exactly what we did to avoid that problem. I've only driven it once so far but no vibrations to report at this point. If your exhaust is stainless, bending that hanger is going to be tough - a little heat and some motivation with a hammer got it done.

7,000 mile loop coast, to coast to coast.

Sounds like an epic trip! Any repairs or issues along the way? Totally agree with your thoughts on the V8 vs 5th gens. I added up the cost of mine with all the mods and it's exactly 1/3 the price of a new TRD Pro with a V6 and car tires. They have us beat with the modern interior and I'd love...

New to me '03 Limited V8, got questions

I'm looking at the documentation DT sends with the headers right now, and here's what they have to say: "Any chrome plating applied to the header components is a high-nickel chrome finish applied to retard corrosion. This is a commercial quality "heat" chrome designed to protect the metal from...

    Lowered 4th Gen

Came here expecting to hate it, but you're right. A lowered AWD V8 would be like a rally car in a fat suit. Certainly more original than the usual 5100s and OEM take off wheels from another model! Would be cool if a company like Eibach got on board with a quality lowering spring. +5 internet...

AFE Power Y-pipe with Gibson exhaust

Removing catalytic converters can absolutely cause drone and more noise overall. Might want to look into putting an actual resonator into the system somewhere rather than bolting on a tip.
