For anyone thinking of buying a Gibson exhaust, here's my review

I've had the stainless Gibson exhaust on my V8 4runner for a couple months now and wanted to share my thoughts on it. There seems to be differing opinions here on the forums on whether or not it drones - and in my case it does. It doesn't annoy me enough to consider it a problem though. Overall, I'm happy with it.

Quick notes:

Pros:

Great build quality with sturdy stainless steel
Nice price
Subtle, yet aggressive sound
No rasp
Good fitment
Simple install
Awesome combo with Doug Thorley headers
Stealth appearance with Elite Black Series tip

Cons:

Noticeable drone around 1800 RPM
Slight issue with the angle of one hanger
Lifetime warranty might not cover all real-world conditions

Hopefully this is helpful for anyone interested in the Gibson.

I went with the Magnaflow catback because it has, IMO, the best looking side exit exhaust available and wanted to be able to have my rear window rolled down and not get the exhaust smell. It also droned pretty bad.

But, I got the Vibrant Ultra Quiet resonator (also stainless steel) welded in just in front of the magnaflow muffler and it helped quite a bit with drone from 1700-2350ish rpm. Got the idea from another member who had the magnaflow kit and had drone issues.

Might be worth giving it a shot. It looks like you have room to install it behind the rear axle as well if you don't want to do it in front of the muffler. Vibrant also has a bottle style resonator that won't quiet it as much, but is a bit smaller and might look better behind the rear axle.

My review after owning the Gibson elite dual tip exhaust for 05 v8 4runner.

Pros:

looks great

Great sound (makes v8 sound good)

Pretty good fitment overall

Price is good and looks like a premium exhaust I personally like the powder coat black tips better than magnaflow (that’s just my opinion)

Cons:

need some exhaust hanger mods (used hose clamps on the rubber hangers to raise a bit) to keep from contacting any metal and rattling

Raspy whine sounds kinda like whistle whine metal vibration noise at higher rpms 4K+ But it is especially annoying when the 4runner downshifts going up hill, I went to exhaust shop to check if it was leaks from U clamps and no leaks was detected was told it’s simply the sound the muffler produces. So now I’ve come to embrace the sound instead of worry about it.

That's odd, I don't have any whine sound on mine. Are you sure the muffler is pointing the right direction? I know that was mentioned on here in older threads.

I commented on your YouTube video, but just wanted to say again here, thanks for making that! I was heavily considering pulling the trigger on this but your finding of that drone in the fairly typical RPM ranges was a little off putting. I'm holding off now to see if I reallyyyyy want to do that to my daily driver. Your rig is awesome too. :cheers:

Thank you Mr. Meme. I'm sure adding a resonator like Jonboy suggested will help with the drone if that's the main thing holding you back.
