You gotta make sure those things don't get clogged up. It happened to my runner and the under padding of the carpet soaked up the water. The inside started to smell mildewy and I had to take apart the whole interior to remove the carpet so it could dry. Long story short it's a pain in the a$$...

I have a 05 runner and I was thinking about installing an intake, but I realized that I only have a vague idea of what an intake would do. So... What exactly would an intake do for my runner? Would installing one have any major drawbacks that I should be concerned with?

I had a similar problem and it was due to a leak in my water pump (The smell was the coolant hitting the hot exhaust manifold and burning off). Check your coolant level to see if it is low or leaking.
