I'm doing freeze plugs and a rear main seal gasket. The felpro kit came with the seal and a paper gasket for the housing. I've never used a paper gasket or gasket maker before. Should I use one, both together or what? The old one looks like a lot of gasket maker, light grey color. If I should...

Just bit the bullet and dropped it off at the mechanic. Hopefully all goes well. I told them to do the water pump, timing belt, knock sensor, and all that other mess while they have it apart.. Might as well if I am paying for the labor.. They said they'd be sending the heads off to be checked...

It's taken me 3 days to do this pinion seal, during nap times .. Can't imagine how long the head gasket would take lol

I can turn a wrench, it's just intimidating to do a head gasket for me. Plus raising a 13 month old cuts my time down drastically. Guess I'll just let my mechanic order the parts and charge me inflated prices :-)

The last time I bought a coil from the auto parts store, two days later I had to replace it because it was defective. Never trust new parts to rule out things needing fixing. I'd look at the coil, I'm not a pro like alot on here are though.

At least your key unlocks the drivers side.. Mine only works in the passenger side lol..

Are there VINs on the actual engine itself, like on the block? This runner I bought has different door VIN, window VIN, firewall VIN. I'm curious if the engine has been replaced or not. Toyota dealer says according to the firewall VIN, the vehicle has been head gasket recall repaired already...

I tried that with pb blaster and vice grips , ended up breaking it off at the base, flush with the distributor base. Guess I need to buy an easy out set it looks like.

Some other issues I went ahead and replaced all the vacuum lines that I could, replaced my Starter (royal pain) and now I have some other questions, I'll stick to this thread instead of posting a new one. Make note these are probably very newb questions with pics. Can I clean/test the EGR...

Thanks Ahlem, great advice, I'll try that tomorrow. Replaced all the vacuum lines and nothing's changed. Starter went out this morning , replacing that thing was a tight squeeze, wow

Just went and bought a pile of new vacuum hoses for the top end, going to replace them this evening or tomorrow morning, hopefully it helps.

Wouldn't it also be possible that the lesser spray at low rpm from the fuel injectors be affected by dirt/grime/clog, and at higher rpm this issue would be lesser of a problem because of the higher flow rate of fuel coming from them?

Also could this be a tps issue? I have a multi meter, found the guide on how to check it however I'm not that confident I am capable of adjusting/testing that.. Looks confusing If it were one of your vehicles, what process would you go through to fix this? I'm thinking about cleaning the...
