How to Get "Check Engine" Codes

Hey Guys, I'm a member with 2nd Gen 4runner, but I'm trying to help a friend with 97 Tacoma. She has a 4-cylinder with the "Check Engine" light on, and I don't know if there is a way to get the codes without taking it to a shop, i.e. changing leads in the fuse box or such. If it is possible...

    Throttle Position Sensor Fouling

After doing much reading, it seems that my idling problems (http://www.toyota-4runner.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=14920) are symptomatic of a TPS out of adjustment. The idling problems occured immediately after cleaning the throttle body. I opened up the plenum, completely hosed down the...

    RECALL and IDLER ARM

Don't know if this is a common problem among members, but the dealer made me leary when I went in for an alignment about 4 years ago. They told me that I needed an idler arm before an alignment could be done. I refused the service, replaced it myself, and returned about a month later for the...

Idling Problems after Throttle Body Cleaning

Good to know then. I'll shoot a little teflon down in there and see if I can give my right foot less of a workout while on the road. Thanks. Bart

Idling Problems after Throttle Body Cleaning

I just cleaned the throttle body on my '92 3VZE attempting to fix a sticky throttle. It didn't work, but it did cause the engine to idle at about 1800 rpm. Anyone have any ideas? Rather annoying. On another note -- the throttle itself. I took the throttle cable out of the throttle body to lube...

    Rebuild Power Steering Pump

Hey Mike, Thanks for taking the time to get this together. Unfortunately, I think it's a little more than I need. My box is fine (I think). But my pump is leaking and I need to make it so it won't. I was hoping there was a way to rebuild the pump, not the box. Nice site though. Best, Bart...

    Rebuild Power Steering Pump

My pump leaks and I can't stand the price of new ones. Does anyone know if they can be rebuilt? Bart Bristow, Va.

    Replacing '92 Throttle Cable

Thanks -- sounds like advice. I'll try and lube my current cable before installing the other. It certainly would be less of a hassle. The rubber plug at the pedal end disintegrated a while ago, and as you can only get another by purchasing a new cable, I'll have to see if can rig something. Bart

    Replacing '92 Throttle Cable

I have 227k on my '92, and the throttle cable is terrible sticky. Have to press real hard to get gas. I picked up a used cable and am looking to install it soon. I have never done this before and it is not in the manuals, so I'm just going to take a crack at it. Doesn't look too hard, but before...

Rear Speakers Don't Work After Install

Hey folks, New to the board here. I just had a new stereo installed in my '92 at Best Buy, and afterwards my rear speakers didn't work. They tested the unit and said that a signal was being sent and there must be something wrong with my system. Since the speakers worked just fine before I went...
