Thanks for taking the time to get this together. Unfortunately, I think it's a little more than I need. My box is fine (I think). But my pump is leaking and I need to make it so it won't. I was hoping there was a way to rebuild the pump, not the box. Nice site though.

Yes, the pump can be rebuilt. Here is a link to a site for a rebuild on a 3.0V6 power steering pump. You will still have to see the dealer for rebuild kit though!!! HTH

Hello guys,
First I would like to apologize for "stealing" the thread. New to the forum and not able to post new threads yet...
My issue is similar and hopefully would help others.
So, this spring I bought a '90 3VZE 4Runner, overall health is good. Fixing some small stuff throughout the spare time I have. Not very complex to work on
Issue definition - hard steering when parking or on low speed (recently realized the steering is OK when the PS fluid is cold i.e. thicker).
Before I realized the above I went through the rebuild kit for this pump, made no difference. Then I opened the reservoir to check the filter, clean like new, no sludge or garbage. Understood this could be also because of the U joints on the steering rack. Had a close look up, sprayed them with WD40 couple of times. Again no difference. The system was completely flushed couple of times already.
After I was struck by the thought that the steering is ok when the fluid is cold/thick I came to the conclusion that the vane pump plates (e.g. 44345-12010) could be worn out (or the housing around the plates), not really sure which one...
So, my dilemma is if it is worth risking with replacing the plates or ordering a new (re-manufactured) pump.
I have already found that one company is making them (part number 21-5844).
P.S. - the downside of all this is that I live in Bulgaria and it is kind of difficult to ship a "new" pump from the US.
So my question is if it is worth spending money and time (mostly waiting to arrive) with the re-manufactured pump?
