    Custom Garmin GPS installation

Sorry - the only pictures I took of the power socket are already on the post. The lighter socket came from Radio Shack. I used a forstner bit to drill the hole in the back of the glove box, then pressed it in place. It fits very tightly, and a plastic wire tie and a couple of turns of...

    Portable DVD units - recommendations

I don't own one, but the Kawasaki model that Target carries looks impressive. For under $300 you get the DVD player and 2 LCD screens, each with headphone jacks and separate volume controls. The video quality of the display model in the store looks good.

    Disabling the DRLs

I haven't looked closely at how hard they are to access, but couldn't you just remove the bulbs?

Installed HU and Omnifi.. check out the pics..

Atomic, what brand drive did you buy for the upgrade? Le t me know how it goes. Also, did you see my note about jumping ahead on the artist list? You'll definitely need that with 60GB!

    Gps

I have the Garmin iQue, which uses the Palm OS. It's nice to have the ability to add addresses, phone numbers, other apps, etc. to the unit. Here's the link to my install: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=9626

Nice install, atomic! >>The only thing I don't like (I think WKParker mentioned) is that you have to use the scroll function ALL the time from A-Z, you cannot jump easily to an artist or album). I recently found that when you are looking at a long list (like "All Artists"), pressing the Fast...

Sport interior cloth... why "light" grey? carpet protection?

Atomic, I picked up some small black mats from Target and put them on top of my front mats. They have carpet on one side and rubber ridges on the other and are just the right size for my feet. Cost about $5 each, so they are basically disposable when they get too far gone.

    Music Keg Install

Nice install, Thornton. Do you have to reach through the wheel to access the controls? Kind of fun in corners, isn't it? :)

    Custom Garmin GPS installation

mit_pied, it should work for smaller LCD displays - take a look at the auction photos (link above) for a bracket with a satellite radio receiver mounted on it (that's what it is designed for). Those are wider than the Garmin GPS and don't seem to interfere too much with the HVAC controls. No...

hubba, thanks for the compliment. I bought the bracket on eBay - cost was just under $40. Here is a link to a current auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=60206&item=5748962821&rd=1&ssPageName=WD1V

Crossfire, the same bracket should work for the 60c. Since this location puts the antenna a bit far back, I occasionally lose satellite reception (usually going down a hill - that points the antenna towards the horizon), but I plan to add an external antenna to resolve that . The tall antenna of...

    Omnifi MP3 installation pics

Atomic, I had a few reasons. One, that is the recommended mounting orientation for maximum shock protection, and it works great - I've really bounced around and never had a skip. I assume that the vertical location lets the heads "hang" so they are less likely to bounce up and down. I also...

    Omnifi MP3 installation pics

afsu - I still like it - even more after a loooong road trip to Orlando a couple of weeks ago. My Grand Cherokee had a HU that played MP3 CDs, but the OmniFi peformed much better - the controls for artist/album/playlist, etc. work better than the CD player.

04Runner, thanks for the feedback. I'm out of town for most of the next 2 weeks, but I'll get some pics and more details up after I return.

    Dash Lights

I seem to remember reading that these are LEDs, not incandescent bulbs. If so, they should last the life of the vehicle (knock wood!).
