Disabling the DRLs

I've now got my 2001 in Africa (without the cat convertor, thanks for everyone who helped. Daytime Running Lights are a bit of a hazzard here as it is interpreted as 'you have permission to pull out in front of me'! Anyone know an easy way to disable them - I tried pulling the DRL fuse and disconnecting the relay on the passenger side but they keep on running!

I haven't looked closely at how hard they are to access, but couldn't you just remove the bulbs?

This is funny because I used the search function on how to disable DRLs and I landed here. I am still wondering how the heck to do this. You can't take the bulb out or you will have no lights on at night! LOL
