Custom Garmin GPS installation

For power, I installed a cigarette lighter in the back of the box and connected it to power through a switch mounted below the steering wheel.

Where did you get cigarette lighter from? How did you install the power? Could you give more details on it, including type of wiring how and where to wire them up and pictures? I've the same installation for my phone, but thinking of placing GPS there. And I also don't like wires all over dashboard.

Sorry - the only pictures I took of the power socket are already on the post.

The lighter socket came from Radio Shack. I used a forstner bit to drill the hole in the back of the glove box, then pressed it in place. It fits very tightly, and a plastic wire tie and a couple of turns of electrical tape keeps it in place. I had to bend the spade connections at a right angle so it would fit back into the dash.

The hot wire runs behind the dash to a switch, then connects to the same fuse that feeds the power socket in the console. The ground wire is connected to a bolt behind the glove box.
