    Struts or KDSS

To update my query: I ended up going with the Bilstein 6612 strut + spring kit for the front and the 5100s with the original springs on the rear. I took it to a local shop for the installation. The bolts on the front mounts were corroded and seized, which is likely due to the harsh winter...

    Struts or KDSS

Thanks, all, for the replies and insight. I will minimally swap the struts, likely go with the Bilstein 5100s as that seems like a good option for my needs--I don't offroad and I no longer drive on the kinds of roads that made the truck so useful and fun for me initially (poor quality dirt...

    Struts or KDSS

Thanks. No warning lights as far as I can tell. I have a code reader so will dig that out and see if it shows anything. I am skeptical on KDSS issues in any case, but want to be sure before I fork out for struts. I am considering the 5100s, so just need to find a shop that will install them. Is...

    Struts or KDSS

Hi folks, My 2012 Trail, with around 130k kms on the odometer, has been feeling really soft lately whenever I hit any sort of bump or anything uneven on roads (I don't offroad so can't say what that would be like). My best descriptor is that the vehicle feels like it is wallowing. It is...

Has anyone had a cat converter fail?

Thanks everyone for your help. I don't have much to contribute on this forum, but I am grateful that others have knowledge to pass along. I got under the truck and pulled and prodded a bunch of bits and it turns out a heat shield was loose. The bolt and nut had basically worn away the hole and...

Has anyone had a cat converter fail?

What you suggest is logical. I will have to crawl under there and see if I can figure it out. Thanks!

Has anyone had a cat converter fail?

The innards are basically a honeycomb kind of metal piece. It can corrode and break into pieces. But yes, it does seem that there are prior symptoms before that will happen.

Has anyone had a cat converter fail?

Either of those were my initial thought, especially in the absence of any other symptoms. The sound initially seemed almost aerodynamic, like something was stuck under, but over time (like 10-15 mins), it seemed to be more like a rattle than just a vibration. I am puzzled as I am pulling no...

Has anyone had a cat converter fail?

Hi folks, I think I have had a cat converter failure on my 2012 4Runner. It happened all of a sudden when I was on the highway doing about 110 kph. It sounded like there was heavy rain on the roof initially, and then later when I slowed down and rolled down my window it sounded like a bunch of...

New Hatch MOLLE Storage Panel NOW AVAILABLE!

That looks very nice. My wife got me the window panels for my birthday this summer and they are very nice. I was not expecting to find them so useful as I don't do off-road stuff, but it has proven to be very nice to have so many things stored on the panels vs in other places, and also to have...

    Body rust

Thank you everyone for your quick replies and good ideas. I unfortunately got swamped with work and was not able to follow up until this morning... Yeah, I agree that finding a replacement door is the best solution. The rust is barely noticeable now, so I have time to do a proper search--a year...

    Body rust

Hi folks, Has anyone else had any body rust on their 4Runner? My 2012 is forming rust on the very bottom of the passenger front door panel, inside and outside. It's the only place on the truck where there is rust (other than underneath, which is expected). They do not use salt on the roads...

    Fuse for dash lights

Thank you!! I figured the switch was somewhere in the locking mechanism (unlike on the other doors where it’s right on the frame) but didn’t know how to get it to trigger. I will have to go and find some chopsticks now... Appreciate the photos as well.

    Fuse for dash lights

Thanks. The fuse I thought was right was labeled something like “Instrument Gauges”, or similar. I assumed it would disable all the dash lights, which I was fine with. I just don’t want the one that stays on when the hatch is open to light up. The rest are immaterial when not driving. I agree...
