Transfer Case Actuator Motor Replacement - OEM or Aftermarket?

Thank you for your detailed reply. I have a 1999 runner with the familiar mechanical transfer case. This is the first time I’ve ever worked on a runner with the electrically shifted case. The diagnosis was made by an independent shop run by a certified Toyota factory technician. He supposedly...

Transfer Case Actuator Motor Replacement - OEM or Aftermarket?

The vehicle is a 2002 runner with the four-wheel-drive/all-wheel-drive transfer case has the electric 4wd shift button on the side of the shifter knob. The vehicle is stuck in 4wd due to a bad actuator on the transfer case. The best deal that I can find on an OEM part is around $1300. I am...

Back Window Rolls Down on its Own at Random Times

My back window, the one in the tailgate, has a mind of it’s own lately. The problem is that it rolls down on its own a random times. I rolled it up twice yesterday and found it rolled down an hour later both times. This condition seems to be affected by the sun. When it is cold and cloudy it...

Anybody on here rebuild a rack and pinion?

Good points. The rack I bought from a local wrecking yard supposedly has low miles. 157k or something like that. They are almost certainly lying, but I can’t detect any slop in the inner tie rods. I’m gonna try rebuilding it with a cheap parts kit from rock auto. If that doesn’t work out I’ll...

Anybody on here rebuild a rack and pinion?

I see that Amazon and rockauto.com both sell a kit of seals and O-rings to do the job from a company called Edelman. I have a factory service manual which I have used to study the job. I have also purchased a used rack to practice on. Any tips or recommendations?

    Key Stuck in Ignition

Thanks. That’s what we are doing right now too. There is a self-serve wrecking yard near us that has a 2002. We will go over there and see if we can get the parts that we need.

    Key Stuck in Ignition

It’s the shifter most likely. It got damaged recently and now it’s pretty loose.

    Key Stuck in Ignition

The key will not come out of the ignition lock cylinder, and it won’t turn all the way to the locking position on a friend’s 2002 SR5 Sport Edition. The auto transmission shifter recently developed some problems are they related? Does the shifter need to be in park for the key to be released? On...

What Tools and Supplies for Toyota Wiring Connectors?

I should talk to my Toyota parts specialist and ask him these questions. I would hope to find an independent seller that has a good selection of everything from wire, to connectors, to tools.

What Tools and Supplies for Toyota Wiring Connectors?

I recently needed a new connector and bulb socket for the left front bumper turn signal on a 2002 4Runner. I couldn’t find any local wrecking yards that had one that I could snip off, and parts stores didn’t have the parts. My local Toyota dealer said that they had the connector housing without...
