What Tools and Supplies for Toyota Wiring Connectors?

I recently needed a new connector and bulb socket for the left front bumper turn signal on a 2002 4Runner. I couldn’t find any local wrecking yards that had one that I could snip off, and parts stores didn’t have the parts. My local Toyota dealer said that they had the connector housing without any wires. In other words, it was a bare connector to which I would have to add contacts, seal plugs, and wires. It is the same kind of work that you would do if you were re-wiring or altering a wiring harness. You need a special tool to release the clips on the contacts so that you can pull them out of the plug body. And then you might need to use the wire stripper to get your new wire ready to add a contact pin. It seems there are certain stripper tools that are good for this job and crimpers. I would like someone who has experience who it seems there are certain stripper tools that are good for this job and crimpers. I would like to hear from someone who has experience with this kind of work who can recommend some sources for such tools and supplies.

I should talk to my Toyota parts specialist and ask him these questions. I would hope to find an independent seller that has a good selection of everything from wire, to connectors, to tools.

I dug around. Sketcky on the net. I hope Toyota makes what you need or you be pig tailing off of used harnesses.

This is what you need. It will give you the PNs for ready made repair wires including the contact and either a short or long length of wire for the exact pin number on the exact connector. This is a revelation for anyone doing electric on these rigs. Your dealer can get the repair wires once you have the p/ns. They are not cheap, so don't plan on populating a 22-wire connector unless you really obsess about your machine. They are a Godsend if you just need to replace two or three damaged wires along with replacing the housing, which are pretty reasonably priced. . It also shows exactly how to get those contacts out and what tools you need.

I remember reading a post a while back. About a member finally getting their terminal kit from Japan. It included some male and female metal pins. And a crimper that did a way better job at crimping than any crimper he currently had at the time.

The member shared a Pic of a sample crimp, and it looked like a factory crimp!

I thought I saved that link but, I can't find it now. Anyone here got a link to that post?
