Depends on what your intended uses are? The Remington 700 is a solid platform to start with. .223 is good for target shooting and plinking. The recoil is low and the ammo is cheap. Out past 100 yards, the wind will play havoc with that little round. If you plan on doing any hunting, its good for small varmints and coyotes but not adequate for larger game.

I've been hunting with a Remington 700, 7mm Magnum for over 30 years. It's mounted on a McMillan composite stock with a Leupold 3.5-10X 50mm scope. I've hunted Elk, Mule Deer and wild boar with it. It's a flat shooting tack driver.

If it's a bolt rifle you're looking for, you can't go wrong 700. Your intended use (and budget) will dictate the caliber and glass that you chose.

yes i am definitly looking for a bolt action. intended uses will be hunting and occasional target shooting. was looking at it in 308 as well.

.308 > .223 IMHO

Now for a tactical rifle, an AR10 (.308) or an M4 (5.56) would be great. I have taken plenty of coyotes with 5.56 at 75+ yds. But, that is not at all the type of rifle you are referencing :driving:

because that's how i roll...lol

that said, I've been looking at the 700 as well in the 7mm, or a weatherby vanguard of some sort.... will be following this thread to see some suggestions ;-)

dam , that m21 is some cash.....pretty cool though, for that sort of money though it'd be a tough buy between that and a FAL or SCAR, just as I've always wanted one of those haha

Here's a couple FrankenFALs I built a couple years ago. 18" barrels and Folding Stocks. They tuck away nicely in the Runner when folded up..

Did I kill the thread....

Here's another FAL..

This one is a 5.56 SAR4800 imported by Springfield, made by Imbel, Brazil.

This one is another 7.62 x 51 with a camo paint job.

Brownell's is a good place to start for gun parts. Since we're venturing away from the 700 and into FN's and AR's, here are a couple of mine.

FN Scar17s with Magpul MIAD grip, Mako T-POD fore-grip, Raytheon Elcan SpectreDr 1.5-6X illuminated scope, Geissele Trigger

Colt, Knight's Armament RAS, Magpul ACS stock, Magpul fore-grip, Trijicon Reflex sight, GG&G BUIS

Thanks for all the help and info gentleman it is much appreciated, I'm selling my sks tonight so that will free up some cash to get my ar-15 build.
Thinking of just going with the dti complete upper assembly for 429 shipped. Lifetime warranty, mil spec, chrome lined 1in7. This is my first build and was doing it for as little as possible. I got a palmetto state armory blemished lower for $55. Thing looks perfect

I would go ar10 vs the ar15 I had to stop doing the 15s because they really don't fit what I need them for they are a good shooting but I think the 308 will be me better I **** did hit the fan

If its a bolt gun you're looking for, might I also recommend a savage with an accutrigger? I'd give a specific model but that all depends on caliber and intended use. I have a savage in .338 LM and with that trigger, it's damn sweet

Go big or stay home :50cal:

Accuracy International AX Sniper Rifle AX338, 338 Lapua Mag, Bolt-Action, 20 in Fluted Muzzle Break BBL.

We shot this on Thursday out in the California desert. 1,000 meter shots.

Optics are key.

Remember " If you hear the shot you weren't the target".

Ya the problem with that is cash flow. A lot of that is tied up between house truck and bills. In due time though I will have a nice 338 lapua rifle. But I'm only 21 so I have no rush :) I appreciate all of the info guys.

HENRY! I'm wearing my Henry shirt, Henry belt buckle, and Henry hat, all made in 'Merica. Oh and so is the NRA belt with painted bald eagle =)

I just sent back my Henry .22 after I had a little mishap with it, my wrongdoing. Great customer service. As much as I love my Remingtons, I'd buy a Henry for hunting if I was to go with a lever action, bolt action definitely the 700, I was looking to get the varminter model, that's the only left handed .223 model. YES I'M LEFT HANDED, which is why I got the ambi Henry lever action =)
