Well after looking around I can't seem to find the last thread we had on this subject. I know we all are running different set stuff so lets see it. Also lets see the radio's and the Mods on them. This will be the place to talk about talking on what ever you are running and to help others....

My other big talker- Ranger SS-3900EGHP (Swings allot, 10 Meter Radio, USB,LSB,AM,FM Etc Etc.... Tweaked and Peaked well into the 200 watt range with no kicker )

Blue, I'm glad you brought this up. I've been meaning to get a CB for a few years now but never seem to get around to it. What sort of unit do you like for casual use? I'd like to keep up with chatter on the highway about road closures and whatnot, and better comms with the guys when we wheel, nothin too fancy.

There is a thread somewhere about this and has everyone's mounting locations. I searched for it but don't' remember what it's called.

At any rate... I have the Uniden Pro 520xl mounted in my ashtray location. This picture is before I had a 90 elbow on the antenna connector on the back so it sits out a bit further in the pic. As it sits now it's flush with the dash edge.



Antenna mount is on my CBI bumper:

Anyone have pics of how they get the antena wire outside? I don't really like the idea of drilling a hole through the body or run the risk of cutting it through a door jam

Don't have my T4R yet but currently rolling around in its cousin the gx470. I had a perfect, to me of course, setup for my Connex in my Super Duty until I sold it.

In my research for my 4Runner (5 th gen) I came to realize that the options for anything larger than the little all in one cobra 75 are quite few.

That being said I decided to build basically a small slip seat box, trucker term that refers to an easily movable box that holds your radio, maybe a stereo, and speakers. I didn't need the stereo or anything as large as they sell online so I built my own out of some 5/8 particle board I had lying around. I literally finished it last night. I'm responding from my phone right now but when I get home I will post pics.

The point to my build was to have something I can quickly disconnect and remove from the rig. As well move it from the front seat to either the back seat or floorboard when the gf is along for the ride.

It's about the size and weight of your standard briefcase and am pretty happy with it.

Using a mag mount wilson 5000 right now. For those of you with 5th gens, somewhere here I've seen using the mounting hole for the XM shark fin to mount a Wilson 1000 or 5000 antenna.

Will post pics of my box later this evening.

I have it under the side panels/floor panels inside, then at the tail gate it just exits and sneaks under the bumper. I don't even notice it's there and no issues getting cut or breaking seals. At least I think that's where it's routed...

I fed mine through the tail light grommet and then behind the light. It feeds through the same hole the wires to the signal/stop/tail lights do.





And used stick on cable ties to hold the cable in place along the tire swing out.

I think this is the best place for a CB and it's why I got the model I did. This and the Cobra 19 both fit into the ashtray spot with a little trimming. I like the small basic CB for what it is, if I went full size then I would but it below my HU. But before I put in a full size CB I'd rather upgrade to HAM. But so far my CB has worked perfectly for me.

Box I built for the radio and speaker. Currently sitting on the backs seat of the GX. Using the seatbelts to secure it in place for now, gotta think of a more permanent solution for that. Dimensions are roughly 18"W x 11"D x 5"H.

That is a nice Connex. I'm trying too get my Texas Star in my rig because that thing will flat get out and touch someone even in the most remote areas of the country. On the upper side ban on high power you can reach from Indianan all the way to Jamaica, or so the previous owner say's. He was running it on a Wilson 5000 when shooting skip.

Thank you very much! Next step is a nice 10 meter and my FCC license, of course.

Sadly there just doesn't seem to be much space to mount the larger radios. Space seems to decrease as the model year increases.

Overhead was the holy grail for me, assuming I don't get a sunroof, but the work involved and messing with headliners is too much for me.

Pretty happy with my setup. Certainly not for everyone but works for me!!
