IDK about you, but I hate seeing ad that's like "wheels for sale" - many buyers are pissed and rightfully so about the lack of information. Its really easy to follow these rules. I dont think @TOY2G 's thread should have been deleted for lack of "FS" but I hate seeing posts that are like "CAN YOU POST PICS" "WTF IS THIS ITEM" "WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED" "WHAT IS THE PRICE" - many other members would appreciate that info in the OP, hence the rules

anyway, @PhdNPrerunners , I found your thread - it was deleted because the item was SOLD. I can get you information from the thread, PM me if you want it. For future reference when items are sold I generally lock the thread instead of deleting it.
I agree, id want it too. but isn't that between the buyer and the seller? how did the forum ever get involved in that?

do they also take responsibility for a bad sale? or if someone gets ripped off? im pretty sure they don't. so why are they taking responsibility for making sure the seller gives the buyer ALL the info up front?

cool deal on the lock. much better than a delete. at least then the info can still be accessed via a search.

It makes the sections run a lot smoother if these threads aren't plagued with posts that aren't just asking the OP to change stuff.

Further, I think that the forum has no responsibility for bad sales. However, I helped a dude who had one a while back and I know SV was involved in that too. The forum us merely a vehicle for people to arrange a sale, Paypal or checks or whatever the method of payment is as well as the buyer and seller assume responsibility - it's a free internet forum, not a corporation like ebay. Im pretty sure there is a disclaimer somewhere too. There is accountability on the forum and a feedback section should you choose to use it, it's at your disposal.

You literally have to pass that message at least thee times before you are able to post something for sale.

I think any normal buyer is interested in the condition of the item so I fail to see how that is out of line.

A pic might be inconvenient, but I think it's a good policy so we can mark that one as agree to disagree.

Hm also though I didn't quote it, price in the title could be annoying, I see that if it changes, I had that issue but used my magic mod powers to change it. You can always PM us to change that stuff, but I could see how that would annoy you guys as well as the mods
Thanks for not banning me...

I rely heavily on my autocorrect to save me from my sub par grammar.....it let me down with the nazi thing. The Fur would be very angry.

On a side note, I have tried to PM a mod to recover and correct a post......I got (4+4) 6 - four score and 2 responses

But in all fairness, you guy guys would loose your mind if all of us man babies started PMing you to change titles.

I think the mods here do a great job for the pay they receive. I know we have a lot of babies and whiners here. We also apparently have a lot of guys who were picked last in gym class and want everything to be equal no matter if you did something to earn it or not. With that said, HOW COULD ANYONE NOT FOLLOW THREE SIMPLE RULES???? I have never used this free service here for selling something, but I went over and checked out how hard it could be. Holy crap, if any of you whiners can't figure this out or think it's hard then you shouldn't be allowed to walk and chew gum at the same time, much less do something that requires even a modicum of responsibility in life. Keep up the good work mods, I understand the level of intelligence you have to deal with. I'm surprised some of these guys even have a nice vehicle like a 4Runner. They must of had one lucid day or something when they bought it and then went back to being themselves.
It's a good thing I am not a mod I guess as I would require at least an IQ of 68 to post here. Again, thanks mods for, if nothing else, being patient with some of the membership.

I agree that I don't think we need so many rules regarding FS threads, and that it doesn't make sense to vanish a post when it doesn't take any longer to PM the offending poster and ask them to fix it. But I've beat on that dead horse before and I'm not willing to volunteer my own time to mod so that's what it is.

I will say that I'm sick of seeing threads *****ing about it though. This is probably something that Admin would have to implement, but what about a forced click-through page? I've seen this on other forums - when a poster goes to open a thread in a particular forum, he lands on a page with a blurb of info, a box to check once he's read it, then he's redirected to the page he wanted in the first place (in this case, the "post new thread" page). Guys miss stickies all the time, and it's not always because they're lazy or blind or whatever, but there'd be no missing a redirect to a page that has the rules for new For Sale threads and a required acknowledgement that the poster has read them.

That way our power-hungry Nazis moderators could delete to their hearts content, and when a whiny b!tch innocent aggrieved forum member starts a "Where did my For Sale thread go?" thread, we can all just sit around and mock them instead of having this debate over and over again. Everybody wins. Except for the whiners, I mean, and who really cares about them anyway?

@SV_Dude and others

Can't you just close or lock a bad thread instead of deleting it?

Problem is then the user can't edit it. Threads aren't "deleted" they are moved to our "trash can" where they can be moved back.

I would really like to see a click through page like KidV suggested, sort of like craigslist uses.

Locking has it's advantages and disadvantages in this situation. Seeing as how we get messages anyways when their posts disappear, they would have to send a message for us to unlock them as well. This would keep people from asking "where did my post go"

I don't think it would look good in the forum however, as you'd have a whole bunch of locked threads in the forum list. Could be seen as "embarrassing" for the poster where when you see a locked thread in classifieds you know why it's locked. Plus, sometimes we lock threads when the item has been sold.

the locked threads would very quickly be bumped down the list. they would spend very little time "up top"

Yes and the advantage is that you can bring those threads back by unlocking them.

It should not be too much for a mod to just create a new reply "locked by XXXX due to rules" and close the thread.

- At least then you can bring it back.
- At least then you won't tick off the serious members of the site.
- At least then you can still filter out the spammers who will never bother to PM a mod.

Perhaps mods should have a 2 way criteria for handling violations.
* Delete if user has less than 25 posts.
* Lock with a short note if user has more than 25 posts.

I think this would have appeased ALL the complaints from serious users about this issue.

They could still be seen by general public and that might make the poster uneasy. It's like putting a kid in time out with his nose in the corner while he's at chuck-e-cheese with his friends. It's embarrassing.

Your threads are moved to a mods trash bin under a moderator section, which normal members cannot access. They are never fully deleted. All threads move to trash bin can easily be brought back and moved back to their original section or anywhere else on the forum. So the only difference between locking and moving when it comes to the mods job is it eliminates the move process.

I don't think mods should have to lock, unlock, and chat back and forth with members just because they chose not to follow three simple rules that are clearly spelled out.

Also, if you feel you've put a lot of work into your post and don't want to lose it, wouldn't it be worth it to yourself to make sure you did everything correctly?

I would also recommend making a local copy of the content just in case anyway. You never know when there could be server problems that result in data loss. I do this for any classifieds posts, rather on forums, craigslist, ebay, etc.

hahaha.

well, I guess we better make sure everyone gets a TRYING trophy too.

I now see why the rules are what they are.
