I saw this at Car & Driver forum. Dodge stop selling the Durango for awhile because of a problem.

http://www.caranddriver.com/idealbb/...A08DC454307248

Here is a copy of the Autonews article:

--------------------------

From Autonews...
Throttle problem on 21,000 vehicles cited

By Mary Connelly
Automotive News / January 13, 2004

Dodge is telling dealers to stop selling the redesigned 2004 Dodge Durango because the throttle is liable to stick in the open position, resulting in a "crash without warning."

An estimated 21,000 vehicles are affected, the company said in a written communication to dealers. The vehicles affected are equipped with a 3.7-liter V-6 or 4.7-liter V-8.

The stop order does not include Durangos equipped with Dodge's 5.7-liter V-8 Hemi engine.

The company began building the redesigned 2004 model in September 2003.

"Water may enter into the throttle cable housing on about 21,000 of the vehicles," the written notice said. "If the vehicle is subjected to freezing temperatures, this could cause the throttle to stick in the open position and result in a crash without warning."

The stop sale order requires dealers to install a revised throttle control cable.

Most of the affected vehicles remain in dealer inventory, the company's notice said. Dealers are contacting any customers who have taken delivery of an affected vehicle.

This puts the 4runner's small problems in perspective!

Wow, this is yet another big blow to DC...they have got major quality issues ranging thru all brands under that DC umbrella!

"resulting in a "crash without warning.""

Hmmm, don't all crashes come without warning?

Hasn't that 4.7 V8 been around for about half a century?

Are these new problems, the throttle and oil sludge examples of modern manufacturing the Chrysler way?

Had a teacher in school that bought a 96 or 97 Durango when they 1st came out years ago, truck had about 3000 miles on it when the ignition cables through the steering column sparked causing a fire that took down his garage and half his house.

Oddly he and the wife slept through it as a neighbor ran around in boxer shorts tryin to put the fire out with a garden hose while on a cell phone calling the FD, amazing that the Dodge did not blow up cause it did have an empty tank of gas and the fire went around the babies room.

Dodge paid for everything cause he was a long time Hemi guy, has 3 completly stock/restored Chargers with OEM tires think their around 69 a Ram and a Caravan

House was rebuilt to twice the size and he was the reason Dodge issued the recall for the ignition wires, and he got a new Durango now you should see his garage

We already have the recall parts at the dealership and have been repairing about 3 a day. The recall consists of installing a new throttle cable which only the 3.7L and 4.7L have. The 5.7L uses and electronic throttle. The 4.7L has been available in Jeeps since 99 and made its way into Dodges in 00. Edge Durangos came out in 98.

I am sorry to hear that!

At this time, the ONLY DC product that i would buy is the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon.

Can't complain about Dodge products they make me alot of money. The new Hemi Ram isn't so bad and the Rubicon is still underpowered whether it has air locker diffs or not.
