Has anybody seen a Road and Track or similiar magazine that has published the 0-60 time for the 2005, or 2006 V8 4Runner? Should be the same for both model years. Cant seem to find it anywhere.

The 2005/2006 V8 4Runner should be a bit faster than the 2003/2004 V8 4Runner becaues Toyota increased power by 35 hp. I have seen different 0-60 times for the 2003/2004 4Runner that ranged from 7.2 - 7.8 seconds. My estimate would be around 7.3 seconds for the 05/06 and 7.5 for the 03/05. I have driven both V8 engines but I never actually tested this.

I read somewhere it was 7.2 seconds for the 05 V8. I cant recall where though.

Look for the Car and Driver SUV shoot out published some time last spring. I got my '05 in March and I recall that shortly thereafter (May issue?) the shoot out was on the stands. It's the one that selected the Hemi powered Jeep as #1. I think the 4Runner was 4th or 5th out of 5. I think 0-60 times are in there.

I believe it has the 0-60 time for a 2005 listed as 7.2 sec which is consistent with other info I have found for the '05. By the way, I'm still pissed they ranked the 4Runner 5th of 6 for the most retarded reasons. Just goes to show how much of a farce these car mags are.
The V8's are fast. Especially the '05+. And the V6's are no slouch either. The new Tacoma has the vvt-i V6 and I've read about 0-60 times in the mid 7's.
Other cars I've raced:
1) My friends '06 F-250 Superduty (w/ the 6.0L TD). This truck is downright fast. I beat him to 60 mph by about a full car length
2) My friends '04 Ram 3500 Cummins TD (intake & exhaust). This truck is faster. I beat him to 60 w/ his nose right on my tail.
both of these guys will romp me when they get their computers upgraded. What's scary is that these trucks aren't much slower when they're towing either.
3) '03 BMW X5 4.4i. He beat me to 60 w/ my nose right on his rear wheel. I had 5 people in my ride, so I feel like I could've hung by myself. The 0-60 time of a X5 is listed in the 6.8-7s flat range
4) '03 Nissan Maxima V6 SE (auto trans). I got him off the line cuz he spun his wheel(s), I held on until about 50 where he slowly passed me. I'm sure if this had been a manual he would have caught me faster.
5) '03 Caddy Escalade. I smoked this guy pretty good. I think he was racing cuz he got a good jump on me but I caught and passed him when the vvt kicked in.
6) '04 Porsche Cayenne S. This was a rolling race. I was able to hang right on his bumper all the way up the backside of the continental divide (Eisenhower Tunnel) at 80+ mph. I could tell he had it pinned cuz his exhuast was suffocating me.
7) '05 Mercury Mountain"queer" V8. I dusted this fool multiple times. It reminded me of that scene in Meet the Parents where they are driving home from dinner and hit all of the stop lights. This fag had his windows down and system bumpin and he raced me at 2 stoplights, both of which I turned around and waved as I started pulling away hard at about 20 mph; I beat him to 60 by an easy 3 car lengths although I'm sure he was a slight disadvantage because he looked like weighed 300+ (one of those fat wannabe gangstas. Hey guess what chief real gangstas don't drive Mercurys. What a joker). Then I was like alright I'm done with this guy when he pulled next to me at like 50, slowed down looked at me then floored it. I did the same and pulled to 90 (in a 55 mind you, kids don't try this at home) where he was about 100 feet behind me. What a moron, I'm pretty sure the V6 could smoke these things.
8) '03 Acura RSX Type S 6-speed. I beat this kid by about a car length. Not sure if he didn't know how to drive it or what, cuz he should've beat me. This POS was complete with one of those melon-shooter rice burning exhausts.
All this monkey business and I still average 17 mpg. I love technology.
I plan on timing myself here pretty soon. I just have to find a level piece of road. I'm expecting 7.5-8 s range. Altitude sucks.

Thank you so much for that Car and Driver report. 7.2 sec from 0-60 is very impressive. How they rated the 4Runner so low on their report is very clear. Car and Driver is a joke, and I am sure it had something to do with donations from auto manufacturerers influencing the magazines ratings. This is the reason I am a subscriber to Consumer Reports. They dont take bribes, or money, and the 4Runner consistantly scores at the top, because they do honest reporting. The rating Car and Driver gave the 4runner, to me harms the magazines credibility.
I think Consumer Reports is a joke except for their reliability ratings. Their product rankings are not based in reality. Don't get me wrong, I still consider CR a valuable piece of information but no less valuable than Car and Driver...just a different set of data points. If you're an enthusiast with an appreciation for an upscale writing style Car and Driver is an excellent read.
I think Car and Driver is the only magazine out there that is worth reading other than Petersens and Four Wheeler. I wish I could find the new 4wd toyota mag in a newstand. Anyhow, I think the points C&D made on the 4Runner were good. Plus you have to remember they arent living with the things long term. I drove a new Grand with the hemi and man I tell you.....that thing was nice. I would never buy one, but it was a nice driving truck. I agree that the 4Runner has a low seating height, and I wish it sat up a little higher. Anyhow, I have been reading car mags religiously since I could read and I will tell you that C&D is the only one worth reading. CR is good for reliability info. Also, OUTRNNR, you should have been able to lay waste to that X5. I was glad to beat out a redneck in a newer powerstroke the other day. I saw him jump off the line so I toed in and passed him as he was redlining at 3k rpms. Then I saw the typical blinker come on and he got behind me:awais:

Like I said I had about 750 lbs of friends in my car and that doesn't count me. Without them I think it would've been pretty close, but its hard to tell.
the '03's have 0-60 time right around 7 flat, but in '04 they got an additional 25HP good for 0-60 in 6.7 (guess they thought the 4runner was becoming a threat). Hey, for all I know it could've been an '04...

I really have no interest how fast a truck can move either, but I do care about passing power and highway merging power. At least thats what I tell my wife.

In case you or anyone else hasn't noticed there is a power war going on in the SUV segment right now. Some of us find this interesting. What I think is particularily interesting is evolving technology allowing us to have a utility vehicle that is not only great off-road but has amazing on-road manners for a 4500 lb vehicle. Its fun to drive. Acceleration, passing power, etc. are all part of making a vehicle fun to drive and add to the experience and freedom of owning a car and driving. I think its fun.
Utility and fun-to-drive have never been found in the same sentence until recently. New technology is allowing that to become a possibility, and why not??? Who wants to drive a POS truck that barely moves. Why not be able to have all that utility off-road and be able to be driveable on-road too??
My driving style is tailored to a vehicle that is quick and can handle well. I am able to accelerate out of trouble and leave it the best place possible, behind me. There are sooo many terrible drivers out there...Where would you want to be on an icy highway? Stuck in the middle of a pack of nervous drivers, or be able to accelerate around them to an opening in traffic where there is less of a chance of you being involved in an accident??
And yes, guys will race ANYTHING, that includes pickles on a window

My experience is following (I have V6 with K&N HPI):
1. FX35 of my boss (he is damm speed driver) - I got him for 1/2 vehicle.
2. BMW M3 (~2002) - he got me for 1/2 car length
3. Saab 9-5 Turbo (I think he had 3.0V6) - equal
4. Honda S2000 - he got me for 1 car length
RESULT - Very impressive for the truck with V6.
I'm happy, because no one of those opponents can get through 3' deep mud hole.
