'00 Sport Bumper Advice

I will be the owner of an '00 Sport Ed. in about a month. The truck has a sizable dent in the front bumper, and the prior owner was quoted almost $3000 from the dealer to replace it. I was hoping some of you who have gone through the process of replacing the front bumper could offer some advice.

Does anyone know if I can replace the front with a bumper from any year of the 3rd gen. 4r's, or does it need to be a 'fat lip' bumper? I was thinking of finding a 3rd gen bumper from a junk yard, painting it black (truck is silver) and putting that on. Are there any sub $500 4x4 bumpers out there worth putting on? Any other suggestions?

My plan with the look of the truck is fairly basic-paint the rims black, clear corners, no running boards, and maybe a small lift/bigger tires.

my 97 (entire vehicle) cost $1800.

look on CertiFit Auto Body Parts - Home it will be under $80

It shows the 99-02 non sport SR5 bumper (chrome) is $65
and the limited is $49.50 unpainted
It doesnt show a sport bumper, but i think depending on your truck one of them will work.

3K?! lol That's ridiculous. You could practically pay someone to drive your rig out to Colorado and have Armorology build you a custom bumper like mine for that. I'm sure you could get a well built bumper for under 2k. I 2nd JohnsD90's idea. Go to Certifit and get a front bumper. If you have basic hand tools like a socket set and you don't really know what your doing you can still swap out the bumpers in a few hours. Just think of it as someone hiring you to work on your bumper for $500-1000/hr. Dealers are such a scam.

glen, that is one badass bumper. i actually live in colorado, but for the time being i think having that thing on the front of my truck wouldn't really match the stock tires and lift. you and rdgt have 2 of the nicest 4r's i have seen on here.

just get an ARB and look tough yet fitted to our trucks.

I believe I caught a sale and no freight and mine was only like $650ish.

Looked online and they list arb bumpers for every model 4runner except 3rd generations. I called a local 4x4 shop that sells arb's, and he was not sure if they still made a 3rd gen bumper. $600 seems like a steal, congrats.

It's the ARB Tacoma bumper

the ARB that fits 3rd gen Runners is actually called a Tacoma bumper, but verify extensively of course....

hence many of us refer to our ARB's as Taco bumpers
