Yes, I have many times. I just replaced mine due to a bad TPS that was giving weird readings. A new TB is $1400 from the dealership so be careful. I have my old one, the TPS is bad and the front cable mount is broken but otherwise in good shape if anyone is interested.
No mods that I know about. Easy to take out and clean, then replace. Don't worry about changing the gasket. It's metal and can be reused.

I agree on taking it off to clean. Some people try to clean while on the vehicle and you end up missing gunk or worse, accidentally shoving it all down into the IAC and then have idle and stalling issues.
No mods to be had here. Not like you can change anything about the throttle body anyway.

I guess it depends on your technique. I'm original owner and sole mechanic at 180k and my throttle body has never been off the engine. I clean in place every 30k and I'm happy at how it looks when I'm done. I am careful not to let stuff get into the IAC. THAT I have never cleaned. The FSM says not to so I don't. So far, so good. Doing the TB every 30k it never looks that dirty anyway so I don't make much of a mess. Never had an idling issue not due to something I failed to reconnect.
Not saying you are wrong to do it; just that there is more than one way to skin a cat.

Totally. I've also not had any issues with the IAC. The reason why I brought it up because there were a few members on here that did gunk up their IAC by accidentally dropping grime and stuff into that passageway.

On the 01-02' models, the TB is completely different than on previous years. It has a drive-by-wire. Unless it has a problem idling, or continuing to run after starting while hot, I wouldn't mess with the IAC especially on a $1400 part.
