'01 4runner warranty work on 4wd system

My 2001 4runner just came back from the dealer after warranty work. The 4wd lights on the dash would blink when I tried to engage 4wd- I was driving straight and not turning or hitting the gas. Even turning off the engine and "starting over" did not reset the system. The dealer called and explained they had to manually disengage the system but it is fine now. I asked them to take it for a spin and try it themselves. I received a call an hour later saying parts needed to be ordered as the "front differential acuator is binding.". They replaced the ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY and the TRANSFER SWITCH. All under warranty (34,000 miles on the vehicle....I got lucky). Anyone have similar problems? I've never abused the system or the vehicle overall so it is surprising this happened on a Toyota. Thoughts? Comments? I did purchase the vehicle used in 2002 with only 13,000 miles on it but under the Toyota Certified Used program.

That is pretty strange...very rare...since i have never heard of this problem. Could the previous owner have abused it??

I am glad that it was fixed under warranty. I will keep an eye out for this problem to see how common it is.
