01 info needed

Hi,

I'm new here and have searched around some, good info but I need to ask some questions..

I have an 01 SR5 with 79K, I bought it new and it was a "promo" model, the one they advertise in the paper you can get relatively cheap and once you get in the dealership they try to switch you to one with lots of options...LOL This came with 15" steel wheels and sits low. I'm not a serious off road guy, but I do get in some nasty stuff during Hunting season and I hunt alot.

1) Going to 16" Stock wheels, Will I need to do anything to the ECU to keep the speedometer in range? Will the offset be different and what is it-(4.5"?) Cheepest place to get OEM wheels, new or used?

2) I may want to lift it maybe 2" or so, will I need to get an alignment. Any other issues that may make me think twice? Should I do the stuts/shocks at the same time?

3) Tires for a softer ride. I know it's a Truck but this thing rides 10X's worse than my 01 Tundra which I just sold-(didn't need 2 and the Tundra didn't fit in the garage). When I get the wheels what tire gives a nice ride and is still a little aggressive.

1. why go with 16" wheels when 15" tires are cheaper and you end up with more rubber and less rim. May end up with a softer ride. The factory backspacing is 4.5" Check the classifed sections on this board, as well as, other boards and you will probally find them cheap if shipping doesn't kill the deal.

2. Yes you will need an alignment since you are changing the suspension geometry from stock, yet keeping it within acceptable specs. Depending on what type of lift you decide on, will determine if you are going to change your shocks. If you do a spacer lift, you have to take the coilover assembly apart anyway, so why not change the shocks while its apart. Also your shocks will help control the ride quality, so don't cheap out on them.

I just like the looks of the 16" alloy wheels and thought with them and large tires I might get a little lift. I'm presently running p235/75/r15's that are getting a little thin and since I will be replacing them I thought I'd do it all in one shot. How big of a tire can I get on the 15" rims-(not looking for mud tires or real noisy off road stuff).

As far as lifting it, the spacer lifts I've looked at seem the most economical, are they the best way to go and do you have any preferences as to which one. I'm a little leary of changeing the springs, this thing rides bad now and I don't want to make it worse. I've got a lot to learn about this...

OK, I have found a set of OEM wheels for well under 400 and I'm planning on putting 265/70/16 ATR Coopers's on them.

Since this truck originally came with 15" wheels, is the suspension different from the ones that came with 16" wheels

Reason I ask, from measurements, it looks like I could have a rubbing issue, especially in the back if I have a heavy load on.

Also: If I do lift it (or need to), I'm looking at this kit:

Is this both the front and rear or just the rear? Any comments pro or Con..

If you can find a set used look for the taller '99 factory coils which are about an inch and a half taller than your '01s and go with 265/75/16 tires for another inch of clearance.

Are you sure that 265/75/16's will fit with stock wheels, anyone here have them on a stock 01.

I did some measuring as best I could, looks like the front may hit the frame when the wheels are turned to the stop and the back may get into the wheel well lip under full compression..

Befor I buy them I'd like the hear from some that are running them, please..

Do you have a 2WD or 4WD?

If you have a 4WD, you should have a problem with 265/75/16's. If 2WD, I'm not sure.

265/75 will fit any year.

265/75 will fit any drivetrain too.. 2wd or 4wd. also they fit stock tires fine. 285s can fit stock tires too with a lift but need wheel spacers or custom upper a arms.
