01 New to Me, Need Opinions

Hey All,
I’ve been a lurker for a while now so I decided I should post. First off I have to say, great forum! I am a part of several forums and you guys know your stuff!

And now my story: Sold my 96 Tacoma because I got sick of nothing being able to carry 4 and decided to pick this up, a2001 4Runner SR5 4x4. Seems to have most options, no leather, fog lights or matching bumpers but I will live. She has 82K on her. Since I have got her I, remote starter/keyless entry, tinted windows, ski rack, clear corner and bumper lights (not installed yet), removed the running boards Silver Star Lights and little things here and there. Front bumper will come off to be repainted; the black is now an ugly grey.

Next will be tires, these little guys aren’t going to cut it. Had Yokohama Geolanders on the Taco and loved them. What else do I need to know about the 01 or the 3rd generation 4runners in general? I know it’s a Yota so it will go forever but beyond that I did little to no research. Any advice is welcomed! Mods advice is also very welcomed! I am having a hard time switching from the Tacoma to the 4runner. I know a lot of you will say they are essentially the same but I need to make this my own otherwise I will turn around and get a 4 Door Tacoma and sell this.
Please help! If I can’t make up my mind then she’s going back on Craigslist and the search will be on. Need some feedback from you 4runner Gurus! I doubt I want to go into extreme off roading, I spent too much on the motorcycles for that, but I need to feel like I am not driving a grocery getter around town! PS- You will also notice if you look hard that the front left flare needs to be silver, if anybody has a spare let me know.

First, resize those pictures!!

Secondly, for just very mild off-roading, just get some good 32" tires and call it good for now. Only other thing I'd consider is sliders. Otherwise, just drive it until you find you need other things (lift, bigger tires, front/rear bumpers, etc.).

4Runner vs Tacoma....well, everyone has their needs. I had 2 4Runners, but found that a double cab Tacoma was a better fit for me. Working on the house, hunting, skiing, biking, etc., I just find that a truck bed is very useful. If I were doing more overland travels and lots of off-roading, the 4Runner would have been a better fit. There are pros and cons with both and you just have to find what works for you.

But, don't think you can go wrong either way.

What are you riding in now p nut? I can never seem to find a 4Door Tacoma that isn't overpriced.

If you are wondering what you can do to it, there are lots of options. If you are planning on doing any overland travel, I think I may be able to help a bit. These little trucks will wheel their @$$ off with a rear locker. 32" meat, a rear locker, and sliders and you can drive the Rubicon (Albeit carefully). Lots of stuff you can do, but first you need to figure out what you want to do with it.

I have a 2001 Tacoma Double Cab. They hold their value pretty well, so they'll be a little more expensive up front, usually.
