'01 or '02 4Runner

Hello, local toyota dealer has a pair of 3rd Gen 4Runners, one an '01 SR5 with approx 100,000 kms (60,000 miles), the other an '02 Ltd with approx 83,000 kms (50,000 miles). Neither looks like they've ever left the showroom, very nice condition. Both are pretty much loaded incl leather, moonroof, auto, tow, etc.. The '01 sticker price is about $4,000 Cdn less but i'm assumming all that is neg..

My question is, aside from being 1 yr newer, 10,000 miles less, extra body side moldings, why would a person want the '02 Ltd vs the '01 SR5...? Also I find the '02 Ltd seems to sit abit lower on the back end, but we're really parting the hairs here. Is that normal for a Ltd? Neither unit has been abused. Can I expect other differences between the two units, like fuel milage, performance, ride, handling, etc....? I will test drive them Monday but wondering if their are things I should look for.

Any advice appreciated.....!

I too would go with the '02 over the '01 simply for the lower km's. However don't let that fool you, these are capable of well over 300,000kms if taken care of. I have seenmany of these rigs still running strong with this kind of mileage. If money is a factory or you simply don't car for the extra moldings and other minor differences then the'01 may be for you. Keep us post on your choice. And you know once you get one we have to have pics :biggrin2:

The difference in miles is 10K, not that much of a difference considering the difference in price, they want alot more for the fancy 02. I'd go for the SR5, for the difference in price you can fix almost anything that a mere 10,000 additional miles might have caused. Personally, I like the cleaner lines of the SR5 especially if you are gonna wheel it, just me but all that limited stuff is kind of like bling. (no offense to the limited guys out there-to each his own)..

I'd say it depends whether or not you want the extras on the Limited. Limited should have the digital/auto climate control and rear a/c, while the SR5 should have manual controls and just rear heat. If both have leather then its a wash, but do both have power seats, Limited may also have heated seats, which with leather would be nice in a cold climate. I would probably go for the SR5 as I don't care for the plastic cladding and I prefer manual temp controls. LTD will have the outside temp display built into the CC unit as well as wood interior trim, probably fake though.

I drive an '01 Limited and my mom has an '02 Sport. I've driven both extensively. The only differences are whether you want the extra options of the Limited.

I like the heated seats when it's cold and if I have back pain. The climate control is nice, but I'm a bit confused about the poster who said Limiteds have rear a/c. I have a rear heater only in the console. Am I missing something?

The Limited cladding is another big factor: do you like it? Do you hate it? It just comes down to personal preference.

I also personally don't like the gold emblems that some Limiteds come with. Mine has silver badges, and I like that. If the Limited you are looking at has gold badges then I'd choose the SR5. But then again, it's just personal preference.

I drove a '96 SR5 for five years, and personally I think the regular cloth seats are the most comfortable seats I've ever sat in. The leather is nice, but I prefer the cloth (not Sport seats). Maybe the deal-breaker for you would be which seat is most comfortable, depending on how much driving you do. Good luck!
