01 Tundra Brake Mod for 97 4runner..

Okay heres where my install begins.
i mean the REAL begining... today i bought my set of used calipers from some guy down here locally from a 01 tundra that had only 50k miles before it was taken off. it came with pads with quite a bit of life maybe around 80%. they are the 199mm calipers (S13WE) and are in very good condition.
all threads and seals and pins are good no signs of damage or anything bad, hopefully.

i will get pics up tomorrow on the calipers just havent took pictures of them yet.

now heres where my thread starts.


so questions i have so far:
1.) were those calipers a good pick up for $60?
2.) they came with NO mounting brackets, neither do the other threads about this tundra brake mod talk about them. do i need them? if so where to buy? and about how much?
3.) I know i need the rotors. any suggestions? im thinking just brembo blanks brand new from online.. or should i just find a used set and save some money?
4.) im pretty i confirmed this reading this elsewhere but, im hoping these will fit with just the dust shield cut down and with the 16" stock alloy wheels im good?
5.) thank you

I'd like to say that's a decent price being I just paid about the same price($50+$15 shipping). I received the same thing calipers and pads. The pads are very dirty due to shipping have some brake fluid on them to. I was planning on just sanding them down a bit and use them to see how I like the upgrade. I plan on getting the Hawk brake pads once I do invest some money in pads.

As far as rotors I was thinking about brembo, but on tire rack not too many people like them. I just got back from vacation so I'll be keeping an eye on this thread and doing my own research as well. GL :lookout:

Those are the same parts I used and I'd say you got a pretty good deal on those calipers. There isn't a mounting bracket I know of, they just bolt up to where the 4runner caliper comes off. I got rotors from Advanced Auto...and they seemed to have warped a little already...so I'm a little disappointed there. Looking back, I'd probably spend a little more and get decent ones. With the 199mm, there is no dust shield trimming or any trimming necessary as long as you had 16" wheels from the factoy...someone else can confirm. Mine came with 16" wheels and I didn't have to do any.

All in all its a pretty easy job...and the results are great! Rock on!:guitar2:

iirc the 231mm are the only ones you need to trim for.
I bought some 231's off a buddies wrecked tundra for 70.00

but thanks im pretty stoked, good to hear that the price i paid was just about right. i mean i had absolutly no idea what to offer and ask the guy but we settled on 60 and to me at the time i was thinking thats a good deal and wanted to confirm.
sorry i dont have the pictures yet i have them taken but gotta transfer to computer.

its also good to hear that no trimming is needed for the 199s.
i gotta pretty much just find what rotors i want and its good to go.
but hmm so brembo blanks? or anyone have other brands to consider?

and from what i heard blanks > cross drilled/ slotted; is that accurate?


brembo blanks seem to be around the price range of 160-200shipped. im thinking those.

btw side note: there was a deal down here for an offer of 280 for a brand new hood w/scoop that ive been looking for FOREVER a hoood with scoop but down here in hawaii its almost impossible to find. so if i do end up buying that then rotors get held off. HAHA
so its either get the hood ive been looking for my whole 4runner life or finish up my brakes and miss the deal. i mean its not one of those HOLY SHIT CHEAP gotta buy it deals which is the only thing stoppping me from jumping on it.

and i dont know what color it is yet haha if its not black im not dealing with it.. paint is to expensive.. maybe.. HAHA

if i go with brembo blanks can someone confirm this is the right part number: Brembo 25534

so brembo blanks are on their way but wait time is 2 weeks...

so in the mean time today i decided to pick up some duplicoat or duplicolor? one of those caliper paint kits. pretty good i must say waiting for it to totally dry but looks good so far

so today i finished painting both calipers and now waiting for the rotors.
ill post pics later. i painted them red.
cause i got brembo rotors so i figure ah make em the company color and red and maybe put some brembo stickers on top for shits and giggles

PHOTOS ARE UP and ive tried this kit and seems to be holding up pretty good but who knjows how good till i put it on.

so exciting news for me today,
i order through amazon at 70$ a rotor and because it was FREE shipping after 25$ on pretty much most of the items on there. especially to HAWAII thats a REALLY BIG benefit

so it estimated ship time around 2 weeks but i figure whatever ill wait and save some money. then i check back the next day after i ordered and it said it was shipped UPS 2nd day air!... FOR FREE!
so i just got it today already and probably going to get it installed this saturday night after work when i got time.


trucks is going through maintainence month and willl be feeling good for a bit.
this saturday getting alignment done and tire rotation and figured i just pay my friend a plate lunch to do the oil change as well with the truck up in the air. and then that night going to do this tundra brake mod! feeling pretty good and going to try get a good night sleep tonight HAHA unless i get tempted to do it tonight.. HAHA pics up soon!
