02 4Runner Exhaust Systems

DO they not make any exhaust system for the 02? If they do please poin me in the right direction. I would love a borla for my rig. I had one on my 95 Wrangler.

You will not gain anything from an exhaust system. Maybe .005 HP. So if you're looking for sound only, just get any muffler from borla. Much cheaper than an exhaust system.

Borla & TRD I know for sure make systems for '02 4Runners. I've also seen some 4Runners with dual exhaust but I don't know if there is a dual kit.

I've heard that the Borla and TRD exhaust system are similar and the Borla is cheaper. When my stock exhaust rusts out, I'll go with a Borla replacement.

I agree. The gains for the NA trucks out there are minimal and just not worth it.

If my truck was NA, I would leave the stock piping, (granted its still in good condition), cut out the muffler, and stick a 28" Magnaflow, (stainless steel inside and out, straight through core), along with a new 3" tip. For the price, (around $50 to $80), the design, and materials used, you can't beat the Magnaflow mufflers. The polished ones come in 304 stainless.

If supercharged, (or plan on supercharging), up the piping to 2.5" diameter mandrel bent and go with the same muffler company - Magnaflow. Any chambered exhaust on a supercharged truck is a complete waste of time, (Flowmaster, Cherry bomb, etc).

Thanks guys for the quick respones. I will save my money for a K&N intake and a lift. Can I just put some new spring and shocks (with studs) and call it a day for a lift?

If you were to combine a Borla/TRD exhaust and TRD headers, would there be a performance gain then?

This is the route I was planning on when the time comes.

Again, if you are N/A, then you will not notice any performance gains. On a dyno, maybe you will see 1-2HP, but is that worth the $$$$ you will spend?

And Jimi900, pass on the K&N intake. If anything, do the Deckplate Mod. K&N will just screw up your MAF.

Too much exhaust flow will hamper lowend performance on the 3.4 unless it's SC'd and the gain is so minimal for the money you'll invest.

Do the deckplate mod instead of the K&N kit and save $200 and get the same results and put more into the suspension.

if you do add the headers i suggest downey offroading. its pretty much the trd hearder, but then toyota takes it and slaps their name on it and charges hundreds more

People say that alot on this board. The guys at URD seem to disagree. I had a lengthy discussion with one of them the other day and learned alot about these vehicles. There is some power to be had if you tune it for the added exhaust and intake flow.

But you do have to spend a lot to get more out of these engines compared to others. But that doesn't mean its not worth it. It's your car.

5 hp, (that is being overly optimistic), from exhaust on a 4000 + lb vehicle is NOT going to make a difference in terms of performance. We're talking going from an 18 second quarter mile stock to 17.95 with exhaust... The argument stands for even a 20 hp increase tuned perfectly. 17.8 second 1/4 ET.

THAT is the reason for NA 4runners specifically, it is simply not worth it.

You go with a charger and increase horsepower by 75 up to a 125 with fuel and smaller pulleys, and now you're talking.

If the guy likes the sound of his old Borla and thinks for that reason alone it is worth the cash, what can I say? As you mentioned, it's his car.

Of course the guys at URD disagree, they're in the business of selling performance items/services and flat out admitting you won't get any noticeable performance isn't good for business.

So,what is exactly calibrated/tuned on a 3.4 with free flowing exhaust and intake?

At best a tenth is all you'd see on an otherwise stock 4Runner and I know because my friend ran his ''01 at the strip stock and then the next week added a catback and the results were negligible but he did have 2 runs out of 7 that beat his bone-stock time by a little over a tenth.

He probably gained a true tenth but other variables cancel out any real gains on the street. The sound is awesome tho' from his Magnaflow.

I'd agree not much to be gained from a cat back alone. But as someone with plenty of strip experience, the story about your friends 4runner isn't compelling.

Arent you the one that posted a link to a custom tacos thread where someone gain decent power from headers? I think it was 10hp and 13 tq. That's something you would feel, especially those that don't have a slushbox.

And who's 4runner run's 18's? That's just sad

These things arent fast, and can't really be made fast even with a supercharger. You can get a lot more speed for a lot less money in another vehicle. But some of us like our trucks and want to mod our trucks to make them more enjoyable to drive.

No one's stopping you from doing things to enjoy your truck. Do what you want. However, for me, my pocketbook does have a limit. So, I am careful when modding, so that they are tasteful as well as cost efficient. The $1000 or what ever you'd spend on the exhaust/header/intake could be put towards a TRD supercharger. Or go crazy and stick in a custom turbo. THAT would be more enjoyable to drive, NOT spending $$$ on a "performance" I/H/E that does pretty much nothing, except make your truck louder.

Yep. I posted that link. HEADERS + EXHAUST gained the person 10 hp and 13 tq. If you bothered at all to take a look at the dyno, you'll see that 8 hp and 11 tq came from the Thorley headers. That leaves how much attributable to the Jardine exhaust? Come on, you can do math right huhwhye?

My point in that post was to prove that mandrel bends make a difference. It was proven that the exhaust yield was positive. Small, but positive. This was in response to another member who said that the TRD exhaust yield was ZERO hp when compared with stock. With the right free flowing muffler and mandrel bends, the yield will be positive. Nonetheless, the gain was minimal. Would you feel JUST AN EXHAUST? Let's be honest here huhwhye. All of a sudden we're talking about tuning, headers, intake, etc, so let's refer to the first post of this thread and keep the initial topic in mind huhwhye.

Who runs 18"s on his 4runner? NOT ME. OOPS?! Typical spoiled so cal boy got caught talking out of his a$$. :bash: :bash: :bash:

LISTEN UP SON!!!

Mine are 16x8" Volks, they run stock tires, and are 5 lbs lighter PER WHEEL when compared with stock rims. Get your sh!t straight before you start dishing it like an ignorant idiot.

LOL... you crack me up huhwhye. Real class act.

By the way huhwhye, what solid information have you contributed to this thread? To the forum for that matter? Keep that in mind before posting, or the next time you feel generous enough to go out of your way to take shots at other members.

LOL... News Flash... The amount of energy required to push 32"s is consistent whether your truck is manual or automatic. This is reflected as a specific drop in MPG and the need to regear to adjust for lost torque. It's not rocket science. In other words, the DIFFERENCE for the autos will be roughly the same as the DIFFERENCE seen for the manuals. You're not going to dampen the effect just because you have a manual - which is what huh? why? is thinking. What's hilarious is this moron is concerned with MPG's and is considering 32"s which on average weigh 13 lbs more than stock tires. 75 series vs 70 series is an old topic discussed time and time again on other forums... ct, yt, ttora. Wow...

To think I wasted time trying to help this idiot.

I was talking about ET and not your rims. And I wasn't taking shots at your but believe what you want. Remember your post about an 18 second or 17.8 second ET???? I think a 1st gen can run an 18.

So before you start insulting people and using foul language get your shit straight!!
