-2002 SR5 4X4
-102,000 Miles
-Asking $9,800
-All Toyota service records
-Good Tires
-Needs timing belt
-Some rust on undercarriage, most severe on tow bar. But everything looks solid
-Immaculate interior
-Paint/Exterior is excellent

Is $9,800 fair?

Id get him down to 8.5-9k if it were me, especially when it needs an 4-500 dollar t-belt done.

KBB it too and see what you get.

That does seem a bit high IMO, but if it looks good and seems like it's been taken care of, $8-$8.5k would seem fair to me.

As mentioned above, KBB it to see, or at least include your zip so we know location. Being that it's 4WD, location is important. You can also use NADA and Edmunds to get an idea on market value. Because the timing belt is not done, the only service records I would be concerned with are fluid changes (oil, coolant, transmission). Rear axle seals commonly go out on 3rd gens with similar mileage so look for oil on the rear wheels and ends of the rear axle.

ditto on the first comment,

use NADA, its what all the dealerships and credit unions use... a little more accurate to what you would get if you had to resell it.

I think it's too high also. I would offer $8000 and tell him it's overdue for an expensive service. Dealerships around here charge about $800-1000 to change the timing belt/water pump/idler pulleys.
