02 Transmission oil capicity question - Help!

Working on a 02 2wd 3.4L 4runner, did a pan drop on the transmisson and did not pay attention to how much came out. Dealers are saying anywhere from 1.6 quarts to 8 quarts. I have put 1.6 in and its not coming up to the cold line before starting, and nothing when running. Whats the right capacity?

Check the fluid when its running in park and up to temp. Add fluid till its in the hot range on the dipstick.

Fluid type: ATF D−II or DEXRON®III (DEXRON®II)
D&R Capacity:
A340E: 1.6 liters (1.7 US qts, 1.4 Imp. qts) 2wd
A340F: 2.0 liters (2.1 US qts, 1.8 Imp. qts) 4wd

Ok, 1.6 quarts is for a drain and fill only, if you drop the pan and filter its 3-4 quarts. I went to 4, and it was perfect in the hot range. According to a dealer computer this is what it requires, you will usually have to go 3-4 quarts on a pan drop, I let it drain all night so it required 4 quarts. Used the dealer bought and rec'ed toyota trans fluid.
