My idiot friends decided my hood was a bench and thus it now needs to be replaced :redbrick: I plan on trading in my T4R within the year but still want to mod a little so I think a sport hood would be a good addition given the small cost difference versus a standard hood.

In all the pictures of the sport hood part:
2003-2005 Toyota 4Runner W/Scoop Hood Painted to Match - eBay (item 290357419048 end time Dec-01-10 10:32:19 PST)

It is missing the plastic (I am guessing) insert pieces. I would greatly appreciate it if any of you could give the part #'s of these pieces, or maybe insight into the install difficulty? Many thanks as always :hello:

don't be lazy. call your dealer parts dept. :guitar3:

here's what you need:

-insulation for underneath
-hood bulge kit (comes with bolts/rivets, vent, vent cover, and a color matched scoop piece that fits into the hood itself)
-stickers to replace factory ones on your original hood

i did a recent swap all factory parts. perfect fitment obviously. not sure what you'll get with this hood (aftermarket?).

plus when you ship something like this, you risk getting dents and have no idea on quality so for the few bucks you'll save, you'll expend additional energy stressing over condition, shipping, quality, color match... what's it worth to ya v. just ordering it all direct from toyota? for me my time is a lot money.

last i heard the factory hoods are on backorder thru december.

good luck, dude.

stickers don't need them, unless your super anal

Curious as to why can't the existing insulation can't be used and just cut where the hood scoop is?

someone on here received one of those aftermarket hoods and they were satisfied with the quality. Yes they can come dented but you can just ship them back.

if you have time to transport a big arse hood around back and forth all the more power to ya. and also dealing with aftermarket companies... let alone ebay goods. what a huge pain in the arse.:artist2: and level of satisfaction can vary a great deal from person to person. i don't tolerate subpar anything esp when it comes to my toys.

why can't u cut? you could. if you're into that sorta thing.

gotta love the internet thinkers.

Right back at you with your way of thinking :hatsoff:

Is that what "therok" does? he handles business, that is cool man lol.

I thought working hard and then trying to save a some money was smart business, esp when the product is almost identical.
I guess I should pay top dollar for everything and then I'll be handling busiiness!

we're talking cars here dude. the ROI isn't money saved. it's the joy earned.

i'd never recommend anyone taking the risk on aftermarket hoods cuz who knows where they come from.

all i know is my example works and if doing it right is a stretch for you, then go ahead cut up your stock insulation, get at it with ebay search and replicate for others.

thankfully, i don't have to pinch pennies with my 4r or any of my other toys. i care about the results and care enough to give good advice. i only recommend going with genuine toyota parts here. the hood is too big of an exterior component to veer off the proven path.

do you have a trustworthy aftermarket hood vendor? insulation source or at a minimum instructions how to cut it up right? hood bulge kit that'll have the right bolts to mount to your aftermarket hood? if so, pls list it out instead of blowing smoke.

show us how you handle business. i've shown how i do it. period.:guitar3:

This person is trying to save some money.

You can save money and still get quality items, doesn't have to be oem. You obviously have a big ego letting us know you don't need to worry about cost's, that's great man. The price difference between an aftermarket hood and a oem hood is more then just pinching pennies.

The hood is big part of the vehicle's appearance. It's not going to provide you any safety benefits. As long as the latch secures properly then there are no safety issues to worry about, its a hood its not a set of brakes or an axle.
If you want to go oem then do it but you can be just fine with aftermarket

Some people don't mind a little challenge, cutting up the insulation to make it work isn't a hard thing to do, you make it sound like a life and death situation, don't over dramatize things.

you're the fiction novel. i'm the documentary. :D

$380 + $75-100 for non-residential shipping + shipping at $200 estimated + $40 for packaging + risk of getting it dented/scratched + gmail.com business address + matched to some paint code and not your truck = your advice.

$400 OEM hood shipped to your body shop + your body shop matching it to your truck $300 = enjoy the drive aka my advice.

you're :welcome:

Thank you this is exactly where I am coming from. I have ordered after market parts from this seller and the color match is perfect. The quality is fine and many would be hard pressed to guess which part is OEM if side by side. The seller is willing to sell the hood for $290 painted for the non-scooped and $300 painted for the scooped. Shipping to my residence was quoted for $110. So total cost of ~$400. As noted I plan on trading the car in within the year, stickers and other non essentials that are overlooked at trade in do not matter to me. From looking at the insulation I should be able to use my current. I cant see needing any other parts than just the hood.

I was just asking for an estimate on the insert parts for the sport hood, not an OEM vs. Aftermarket debate. But while on the subject, why spend loads of money on Toyota mark-up and body shop paint with the presence of viable alternatives? To each his own

it's all relative. some people have higher standards than others. what's perfect in your eyes may look shoddy in mine. loads of money to one person isn't to another. it's good to have different options and yours is a route that i'd never take (nor recommend) and wouldn't actually buy a truck with an aftermarket hood using non-sport hood insulation, etc. corners have been cut. literally and figuratively. :D

so what you're faced with now is color match ( you say it's good but who knows what it'll look like to others), FITMENT, appropriate fitment of the rivets, bolts, and how that insulation is going to stay on correctly and how it'll look (you don't care since you're cuttin corners).

it'd be great if you could post detailed pics of your hood project once all done. i'd be glad to post mine, though it'll be pretty boring since it's factory perfect. good luck with it.

Jesus. :hiding: First off, as noted, I am trading the car in soon. With the mileage it is going to be a wholesale vehicle / dealer-to-dealer sale, no way in hell is the dealer going to take a magnifying glass to the car, let alone the hood.

I have ordered Galatic Grey Mica parts before from the same seller and its a seamless match. Ill be happy to put up high-res pictures of the car and there is no way you could tell which parts are OEM and which are not.

Its a CAPA certified part so its ensured to have the same fitment and quality of OEM parts. Buying quality aftermarket parts is NOT cutting corners, that's exactly the mentality dealers want. I am sure your Toyota dealer loves you, especially during these trying times. :bigok:

why do you guys take things so personally? you do realize that what we type can serve as a reference for others who may or may not be "trading the car in soon?"

don't you think that i'm lending perspective here to someone who may be weighing the pros/cons and make the decision that's best fit for them? u are the foil.

show us the underside of your hood with your "custom" insulation. show us how you lined up the bolts and rivets and how the OEM scoop (doesn't exist in your aftermarket vendors catalog). anyone smart enough would know checking up on exact fitment and paint quality is impossible to do over computer screens. CAPA certified part? again, quit blowing smoke. who certifies YOUR hood? how is paint being matched when your truck is many many many miles away never to be seen by the painter of the hood by the vendor with the gmail.com address? LOL

it IS cutting corners. you are cutting. period. and it's not something I would recommend as a good way to go esp for an enthusiast. sure if you're working with a tight budget where a couple hundred bucks saved makes u feel better, well.... that's life. :driving:

and hey there's nothing wrong with having a good relationship with your dealership. it nets you things like... buying stuff at their cost cuz you're a nice guy which i am. ;)

Lets be real. You're a prick.

If you think your insurance company cannot and will not install certified aftermarket parts on your car if there is a claim you're the one blowing smoke up your own tailpipe. That paint-matched hood you're talking about...I'd be willing to bet you the body shop bought premixed paint and sprayed. No matching of any kind probably took place.

If the insulation is cut properly it will look great and pass the test of most people. Only truly anal "must have OEM parts faboi's" will possibly notice.

You're a financial friend of the dealership, and a loyal sucker (customer) to the parts department guy who's supposedly selling you parts at cost. If he keeps doing that he'll find himself out of a job, and you'll be out of a hookup real soon.

" and wouldn't actually buy a truck with an aftermarket hood using non-sport hood insulation,"

Wtf?

Someone tell me what the difference is between "Sport and non-Sport" hood insulation?
