Which year whould you choose from the 4th generation 4runner?

I like the idea of making side air bags and curtain air bags standard in 2008.

Actually they have steadily improved it year after year. Notable years would be 2005 for mechanical improvements and 2006 for nice upgrades. I like the LED tail lights and MP3 player. Also, the towing ability has improved over the years, in 2003 it was 5,000 pounds max for the V8.

i voted 05 mainly because of the 5 speed auto tranny upgrade... other than that i own an 05 so.. :flipoff: :bigok: i do wish i had the projectors so i can buy the HIDs without having to buy 400 bucks worth of brand new projectors on top of the 200 bucks for HIDs... but i can't complain cuz i own a 4runner! :dancin:
 
I always like the last year of a body style. That way you have the freshest and latest one out there.
 
05 all the way...

There are good reasons for owning just about every year.

The '03-04s can be supercharged. They also came with the plastic cladding on the sides/fenders on Sport models that I am sure I am one of the few who actually like the look.

The '05s got the best engine of the bunch with the highest rated HP numbers if I am not mistaken.

The '06+ got the exterior updates. Though I wish my '05 had projectors and LEDs, I think the previous body exterior features made the 4Runner look more aggressive. Something about the squared wheelwells and slimmer front/rear bumpers just appeals to me I guess.

The newest models get all kinds of goodies as noted in a post above such as a locking diff and A Trac.

If I were to buy another one, I would still stick with the '05.
 
If your going to wheel it, get an 09 with the E-locker, if your NOT going to wheel it, it doesnt matter, lol :headslap:
 
I had an 06, now have 07. Would have liked an 09 but couldnt find one and didnt want to pass up the one I ended up getting.

Taking an '09 offroad scares me. That being said, I'll bet that virtually every aftermarket locker (how many exist?) would cost less, even with the install, than the factory option. Just a thought.

lol,, yea most people are like that, not me, my 99 went straight from the dealer to the trails, didnt even stop for gas, same thing with the 04, from the dealer straight to the trails... Im a little different than most, If I buy a 4x4, Im going to wheel it, no soccer mom, grocery getter here lmao.
you should see the number of 4x4s here, most are to scare to wheel them in fear of breaking something, lol
So since your not going to wheel it, IMHO what difference does it make ? do you want a higher priced vehicle with a higher ins. premium ?

Good point and understood. I've always taken my rigs offroad. Most have been Toyotas too. With the exception of an Early Bronco, I've had 2 40 series Cruisers, 1 60 series Cruiser, 1 100 series Cruiser, 1 2nd Gen. 4Runner and now the 4th Gen. and all have made their way to the trails.

I guess it is just the thought of a $30,000+ vehicle getting all...uhhh...dirty. :D

Not that it matters really. My '05 looked new when it left the lot in '08 but she still takes a beating now and then. Oh how I love the V8s in these things. It makes wheeling it a completely different experience from the garbage V6 found in my '92.
 
favorite year

Add +1 to 2008. I voted 2005 based on my 4runner. After seeing the changes to the 2009, I am firmly sticking with my new choice of 2008.

This is my thinking, as well. Better for me to resell down the line IMO.

But I do agree with bronchogg's points. I would like to drive an 05 to see if there is a noticeable difference. I do wish my 4R had more get up n go some times.
 
05 for me cause that is what I drive, my v8's get up and go will get up and leave you if I'm not careful................
