03 4Runner belt noise

I have learned so much from all of you at this site! This is my first post. I purchased a used 03 4Runner (used, V6), last May. After a few days, I noticed a brief belt chirping belt noise when starting up in the morning. This did not happen everytime, but atleast once weekly. After searching here, discovered other's also had some of this too. Anyway, I now have 35k miles and plan to approach the dealer with this concern. Since colder weather is now here the problem seems to have gone away. So, I expect the dealer to say they do not hear the problem. This will be difficult, at best, for both me and the dealer. I will let you know how this turns out.

BTW, my seat does have allitle very slight movement, when turning corners, sometimes, but it is minor. Compared with other posts from here, guess I will not add that to my dealer list.

serpentine belts can make some crazy noises sometimes..throw the hood up..while the truck is running shoot a little WD40 on the belt..if the noise goes away youve figured out the problem..

I don't have the number right off hand, but there is a TSB on the V6 belt problem. I have had mine back 5 times for this problem, and it finally seems to have been fixed. If they suggest just replacing the belt, you will be back again next spring when it warms up, trust me. The problem stems from an offset idler/tensioner pulley between the crank and fan pulleys. The TSB calls for the replacement of the idler pulley, and a shim kit installed to bring the pulley into proper alignment with the others.

I think they have all the TSBs listed on the site somewhere. Print a copy of it, and take it to the dealer.

PS; The TSB is EG012-03, dated 7/3/03. Give this info to the dealer, they should be able to pull it up for you.

Thanks to all who replied. I scheduled a appointment for this Monday. Explained the belt noise has stopped since the weather turned cold and that this may be difficult for the service department to determine a issue now. Also, asked about the service notice (TSB). There was some hesitation from the service mgr. He did indicate that they would pull up the document, I gave them the TSB #.

However, what I think will happen, is they will not find anything wrong. I'm not trying to put down the service dept. cause I realize the belt noise is not now occuring.

Just returned from picking up my 4Runner today at the dealer. They have to order a part. They were so busy I really could not talk. Once the part arrives and is installed I should know more.
In spite of the noise not present in cooler weather they seem willing to proceed with the fix. We did not get into cost, but I mentioned I wanted to get this done before going out of warrenty.
