Whats the reason for not being able to use this for an upgrade? im interested in doing the same to mine but not sure which route to take, OEM or after market?!

hi, it can be done but it is expensive and a lot of labor. the difference with this unit and the newer ones is that this one requires a seperate map dvd drive that is located at the rear of the vehicle and you have to run the wires to the front. the 2006 4runners and up have the map dvd slot built into the nav headunit. if you were to hook this up in your vehicle or mine the way it is and its direct plug and play everything would work except the navigation. so i went with the top of the line pioneer avic z140bh im having it installed on jan 8th. its a great unit bluetooth, pandora, aha radio, nav, plays dvds, back up camera etc..loaded with features....cparise.
