03 4runner - vanity mirrors?

I have a SR5 4.7 03 runner, and i was wondering where i can purchase or get vanity mirrors? Neither the driver side or passenger side has it...is this normal?

It is normal for an SR5. This was available on the Sports and Limited though. If you want the OEM visor with the vanity mirror you can get it from partznet.net. As far as aftermarket I'm sure the auto parts store has something that will strap around the existing visor.

Call toyota and request for vanity mirrors. there was a production mess up making all 03's to miss the vanity mirrors prior to march 2003 production.

it's free and maybe the service manager will have this info if they're smart enough (unlikely though).

I'm not saying you're wrong but who gets the visors without the mirrors if not the SR5 model? Was EVERY 4runner supposed to have them? Or were they on all models of '03 and then changed the standard equipment for subsequent years?

If you read the brochure (2003) it'll state that all 4runners comes standard with vanity mirrors. Somehow during the 1st production, the SR5 grade didn't include the mirrors. Toyota kinda kept it low key as most people didn't notice the inconvenience except for those that really needed them (i.e. passengers who use them basically). So Toyota didn't address the problem until more recently.

I believe there are threads still in circulation regarding this problem on this forum or I know for sure on the Tundra Solutions forum.

I have the recall notice for my vanity mirrors but I'm not getting them as they're not powered!!! They're just mirrors that's attached so if you slide the cover open, you don't get the lights .. I guess if you really want them, you can find some from a late 03+ and take em and try to wire them up on your own.

Also, are fog lights standard or optional?? i don't have those either...and all the SR5 V8 with leather/sunroof that i saw have fogs....

i think they're optional. mine came w/ the bells and crap even though it's a sr5. lol (just wanted it that way).

SR5 with leather? uhhh that's the oddest thing i've heard about 4runners. The leather must have been dealer installed.. . but in regards to the fog lights... SR5s do not come factory with fog lights... unless you made a specific request..

I think the difference is that the Sport and Limited come with lighted vanity mirrors and the SR5 comes standard with just the mirrors.

Yup, some early SR5's didn't get the mirrors installed. Some SR5's have the lighted mirrors, they came with the side airbags. That's why some SE's have lighted mirrors also.

Fog lights were optional on pre-April 2003 SR5's (those with cladding) and standard afterwards (painted cladding). At least 2003 SR5's got the telescoping steering wheel.

If you're in the Southeast, then the leather was probably port installed.

Midway through the 2003 model year, Toyota introduced the Appearance Package as standard on all SR5 and Sport Edition models. The AP included painted cladding (to replace the gray), running boards, and fog lights.

Early SR5's that did not have fog lights may or may not have been prewired for them. Look around the turn signals and headlights. If you see a pigtail taped up, then your is probably prewired. If not, then it is not prewired. If yours is prewired, then they should be easy to add. If not, then the Toyota wiring harnesses are expensive -- last quote I got for wiring and lights was over $1,200 (US$).

Actually the first run of Sports didn't get mirrors either. My V8 Sport was missing the mirrors (didn't notice it till Toyota sent me a letter stating that I needed to come in and get my new visors... made the GF very happy.) But my truck also came with some Limited parts (gear shift knob is the leather Limited.. not the gray "Sport". Guess they just use whatever they have ready for production when they first start out.

I wonder if the switch on the turn signal pole thingy is already there or if you'll need to add it?

About the illuminated vanity mirror's....I have an 04 Sport. Does anyone know if they are pre-wired for illuminated vanity mirrors. If so, where do the wire bundels stop. If not, does anyone know where or what needs to be done to run the wires?

Anybody know if our rigs are pre-wired for the lit vanity mirrors? My '04 Sport has the unlit ones. A few of the NE guys had a meet today and we were discussing whether this is something that can be easily added.

When I went in to ask about hooking up the rear audio system in my truck, the parts guy looked it up in the computer and said Toyota uses different wire harnesses for ones with/without illuminated vanity mirrors, with/without sunroof, with/without rear audio, with/without side airbags. So theoritically, they would need to make a LOT of different wire harnesses. IIRC, a new harness is less than $200 though. But, the parts guys have been wrong before.

Hmmmm....doesnt make sense that they would waste alot of money on multiple harnesses like that. Because the number of different ones would be a crazy high number.
