03' 4Runner won't start

My 4runner won't start when I turn the key, it makes no noise at all. I can't even lock it with the remote. The first time I went to turn the key, it started for a second and then died. Then the next time I went to turn the key, it made no noise.

Please explain to me like I'm 5. I don't know that much about this kind of stuff. Thank you!

Additional things to add:

• Just earlier today I made a 2 hour trip back home.
• It hasn't been particularly cold today either.
• I just bought a new battery almost a year ago.

Your battery is dead for sure. Batteries run out of charge for one of two reasons. Either the battery went bad (more likely) or your alternator which is the thing that keeps the battery charged died (less likely) Generally if your alternator died there should be a red or amber light lit on your dash for a few days prior to this condition.

Otherwise you should get a jump start and take the car back to where you got your battery for a warranty replacement.

Heh, I got the battery at my sears, but they've closed down now.

i second the dead battery notion, jump it, leave the cables attached for a minute once its running, then go back to sears and get the battery tested then replaced if need be

I'd check your fuses and relays as well. If you have zero power, something there doesn't sound right.. even at near full drain a battery will at least turn on something like dome lights...

If you just took a 2 hour trip and your battery is dead than your battery is either defective (can't be charged) OR your alternator is fried... (if you don't have a fuse or relay issue)

Do you have any accessories or third party electronics running when the truck is off?

Top post battery right? Aren't these known for corroding to heck and back?

Some baking soda and water work miracles on the corrosion and slowing down the issue. Then checking the connections and tightening if needed works well in a lot of cases.
