I have a 4th Gen 4Runner that all of a sudden won't start. The starter spins (sounds normal) but it doesn't start, and the dash lights come on and stay on. I have to disconnect battery to get the dash lights to turn off. When I disconnect the negative battery terminal, and reconnect, then it will start but the next time I shut it off it malfunctions again.
I have tried swapping out the EFI relay with another one (fog lights one) but it didn't correct. It has a brand new fully charged battery. I have tried it with both the original OEM key fob and with a spare key fob. I've tried to wiggle the ignition switch to see if it jars anything in the ignition.
Any ideas?
