'03 factory NAV problem

My '03 4runner came with the factory nav system and has worked amazingly well until just recently. While opening the display to remove a cd the display remained in the open position. I took the vehicle to the dealer and they removed and inspected the Nav system and determined that the electrical motor had burned out along with some circuitry and that the system needs to be REPLACED. I figured the motor wouldn't last forever but didn't think I'd have to buy a new system. Seems a little fishy. The vehicle does have about 70K miles. Anyone else had any issues or advice on how to get this fixed? Appreciate the help.

If the motor is part of the NAV unit, then toyota would not fix the motor only as they are not stereo electricians.

If you had an aftermarket unit and the same thing happened, you would probably take the whole unit out and send it in for repair.

My hunch is that your only alternative is to take it to a stereo repair shop or start soldering yourself.
