03 Front/Rear Brakes

These seem like they would be easy to do it myself, in reality are they? Do I need to turn/resurface the rotors, they don't seem bad at all?

What should I pay for replacement pads and where?

BTW, I got a quote from Break Check, $140 for fronts w/turning the rotors.

Several threads on this. There's probably an equal number of opinions...


IMHO, if the rotors aren't warped scuffing them with some fine paper or a Scotch pad is fine, in fact better.

Also IMHO factory pads are hard to beat. They are clean, mostly quiet, sticky enough, they don't fade terribly etc. Partznet.com and other Toyota sites sell OE pads at a pretty good discount.

On your '03 do you know if the calipers have been replaced? Read up on 'frozen calipers'. 4th gen T4R calipers seem to be prone to stuck pistons. I'm not saying you have one just be prepared.

Did the frozen caliper issue apply to 2004 models as well?

Yes, if they're pulsing.

Partznet carry OEM Toyota parts, just like the dealer.

Yes, the frozen caliper can happen on any 4th generation regardless of year.

Got my front pads at AutoZone. Im not a big AutoZone fan but they are open at convient times (Sunday). I got the basic pads for $30.00. I figure since they are so easy to change I would give them a shot. They seem to work as well as oem with no squeeling. If you need calipers DONT get them at Autozone!!!
