03 Limited aftermarket head unit?

Has anyone with an 03 or 04 Limited (w/ JBL 10 spkr) installed an aftermarket stereo head unit? If so, what dash kit did you use?

It looks like the JBL 10 speaker system that came in my Limited has a different size opening than an SR5 or Sport without the JBL. I looked up a few pictures of Sport models with aftermarket stereos and it looks like the face of the stereo is slightly recessed into the dash and there are trim pieces around the edges to fill in the gaps. My JBL's headunit is flush with the dash so there would be no trim pieces around the edges if I were to remove the unit and install one of the aftermarket dash kits. I'm wondering if it would be ok to use the kit from American International or the one from Metra because the local stereo shop said those two kits wouldn't fit in my Limited.

well, I just got back from the local stereo shop (3rd time, 4th full day with my truck) and they said they could not make the dash kit fit yet again. They also said the aftermarket stereo I wanted to install (alpine cda-9813) would not work with the factory door speakers because of the impedance difference (I have the JBL 10 spkr setup)?

So basically, after all this and a month of taking my 4runner back and forth to the shop, they said I would have to buy a new 4 channel amp to power the door speakers and I would have to pay $280 extra labor for them to custom build a dash kit! They also would not refund the $100 I paid to install the head unit in the first place! So I'm out $100 and have nothing to show for it.
I definitely would NOT recommend this shop to anyone in the So. Cal. area (Al & Ed's Autosound in Costa Mesa).

Now I need to figure what I'm going to do with this Alpine unit that's sitting here doing nothing...
