I have a 2003 Toyota 4Runner and the passenger door lock is not functioning properly.
Here is what happened. For a while it worked intermittently with the remote and electric door locks and fine if you operated it manually with the switch on the door.
About 2 months ago the door lock completely froze up (while on vacation I mgiht add) and would not operate with the remote, the switch or manually. I was able to work in it some and now the door lock can be operated manually. Reaching across the car is really a pain.
So from reading all of the door lock issues in the forum, I have figured it is probably the lock actuator or the door lock motor.
My question if the actuator assembly a mechanical or an electrical device? If it is a mechanical device, my guess is the door lock motor is bad.
Is there any way I can check to see if the motor is bad before shelling out a lot of money for a new one? Also where can I find the best deal on a door lock motor if I do have to purchase one?
