'03 SE power lock problems

My power door locks lock all doors when shifting into Drive but they don't unlock when shifting back into Park. I have to manually use the power unlock feature to unlock the doors. I've looked in the manual and tried setting it so that they will unlock when shifting to Park, but it doesn't work. I think there are 3 or 4 different ways you can have the door locks programmed with your shift position, but none of them work.

Besides being a nuisance whenever I want to get out of the car, it has become a bigger problem, which may be another problem all together. Twice I've locked myself out of the car when it was running. I think what happens is that I go to open the door with the vehicle running and the handle opens the door (have to pull hard), but the door doesn't actually unlock (doors were locked automatically when shifting out of Park).

I'm taking it into the dealership next week, but was hoping I could save a few bucks if someone had an similar problem and solution.

Any suggestions are welcomed.

The procedure works on my 03's. Timing is everything! When it says hold for 5 seconds....you must do it for that long. I had to do it a few times to get it to work. Keep trying. If you ask the dealer to do it they will charge you for the lobor!

I have tried it multiple times with no luck. I think there is an error that occurred in the computer that operates this. The dealer stated to me that it could have occurred when I replaced the battery. The fact that I can lock myself out of the car with the keys in the ignition and the car running leads me to believe this. Is it possible to lock the doors when car is running?
