03 Squeaky Brakes

I have 2500 miles on my '03 4Runner. First thing in the morning when I apply the brakes they squeak when driving in reverse. It goes away once the breaks get warm. The dealer doesn't have a clue what's causing the noise. Any ideas?

Do you by chance park it outside so there is moisture on the rotors? We had a Chysler that made an awful noise when the brakes were first used until the rotors dried off. It really showed up after washing.

Squeaks are a norm for any vehicle that sleeps outside.

My rig sleeps in a velvet garage and the brakes still squeek!

The dealer looked at the set-up and said they were not adjusted correctly from the factory (my parking brake would not fully engage either) and claimed that fixed the squeek. Dealer also said he did me a favor by 'popping off' the wheel and adjusting the brake at no charge!? With 8,000 miles I would think this would be warranty, squeeking has been happening since day 2 of ownership.

Wrong, it is back.

I am tempted to take it back and inform the dealer to 'charge' me for a brake adjustment if that is what it takes to get rid of the squeek. Some members rotors have been re-ground and others have had a new rotor altogether replaced, hope this is not the case for me.

You can put some anti squeal stuff (not sure of the proper name) on your pads. They should carry it at any parts store. You may have also glazed your brakes - driven for a period of time with the parking brake partly engaged. The only way to get rid of that squeal is time (or new brakes).

My front brakes make some kid of whistling after I depress the brake pedal at low speeds when the brakes have warmed up! It's weird because it doesn't happen when they are cold. I have the dealer do a full brake job and it still makes that disgusting noise, it sounds like a sanitation truck! Whatelse could it be?

My brakes have also been squeaking. I went to the dealer to get a brake inspection, and they told me I should have about 12K-15K miles left on the pads. They aren't sure what's causing the squeaking. I sprayed some brake part cleaner in there today, and I'll see what the results are tomorrow. The moisture theory is interesting -- I've never considered that. My brakes only squeak when I slightly press them, not when I fully press them. Do you guys think I might have the moisture problem?

I don't think the noise I am experiencing is coming from the brakes, when I step on the brake pedal I don't hear anything, however, when I let go of the brake pedal slowly and only at speeds of 5-10mph I hear a sort of a whistling that can only be reporduced by stepping on the pedal and letting go slowly. Very odd!!!!Also, it's only when I have driven the vehicle about 10 or more miles not when is cold out of the garage or parking lot.

My 03 has 25k on it lives in a warm cozy garage with 65 degrees year round. Brakes do hiss a little, but nothing serious. But just about 4 days ago i started noticing that when i back out then stop and then go forward and apply brakes they click. Shoot i don't like that noise. I had that happen on one of my cars in past. I think it was toyota. Basically my pads wiggled. I want to goto dealer, but i am afraid after last visit they did more damage to my car than repair.

I wouldn't stress about it. Every toyota that I have ever owned has had squeeky breaks. Learn to live with it. Now, if is starts doing it while accelerating or starts to grind, that is an obvious problem.

damn did you say 2500 for an 03? thats some low milage.. i put that much in one month... =P just had to say...

What do ya mean "post date" I really do have .. well 26000 mi on my car. at it is 3 years old. I feel kinda stupid for saving the car, but I like the small mileage. I bought it 2 years ago and it had 12000 on it. I work 5 miles from home and sometimes drive it for client visits. Every car i owned before this one had over 150K on it. I have a Toyota Previa with 340000 on it. I bout it with 260.000 in 1998. I don't accelerate hard on my 4R I save it for something. I drive it like an 80 year old slow. But, I know that I can beat 99% of autos there, and it is a nice feeling. :artist:
