03 T4R whining on acceleration

I'm a total newb here.

I just drove my g/fs T4R about 400 miles tonight. After getting off the interstate and driving in the city, I noticed a whining noise coming from the front of the car. It sounds like a power steering whine that you would hear from alot of Ford vehicles. However, it happens when I accelerate. I put the car in park, stepped on the accelerator and it made the same whiney sound. Any ideas on what it could be?

belt? pulley? Nothing has been replace from what I know. It is getting close to 80K, so I'm sure some things need to be done.

Any help would be appreciated!

Based on what I've read here, it's the idler pulley that needs to be adjusted.

I have a '03 SE, but only 36k miles, and I've heard the "power drill" noise intermittently.

I don't know if there will be issues if it doesn't get addressed.

Is this something that will affect the car? Does it need to be looked at ASAP?

Yes !, like a power drill noise. But it happened when I poured Techron into the tank. Could it be just coincidence?.. because its gone now. I don't know if the mechanic adjusted something there. I heard that noise when accelerating from a complete stop.

Wait..do you have the V8..or V6...it may help those genius here..comment on this..

I hear this noise often in my '06 both during acceleration and just cruising. I am actually pretty worried about it. It sounds dead on like a power drill. I hear it often because I always drive through my school and working parking garages with my windows down. My 4Runner has the V6 btw and 37,000 miles on it. Can anyone else chime in on this?

I don't know if i had the same problem with mine but i had a slight noise coming from my front and the dealer spotted that my serpentine belt had cracks so they replaced it $150 later. Then the noise was gone.

My serpentine belt was replaced @ 60k miles, but it didn't cost me $150, I think for the 60k maint only cost me $225...included replacing spark plugs plus all those tune-ups suggested by the manual. The dealer asked $600 plus..until the sales agent (toyota) text me to go somewhere.

Wish i were in CA. But here in Colorado Springs, there's only 2 Toyota dealers which is owned by 1 person. So "supply and demand" applies (i guess). OR my other option is to drive up to Denver (an hour away) and get my maintenance done there.
