All really depends on what exactly you want to do and how much you want to spend. You could get a powered sub, one with a built in amp, and then run it without a separate amp, however, if I were you I would spend a little bit more money and get a separate sub and amp. I run a JL 12W6 pushed by a JL 500/1 amp which will kick like crazy if you want but also provides excellent sound quality and accurate bass. However, this setup will put you back close to $1000. With that said, I would recommend any JL products. I have been told that the W3 subs of theirs are excellent for the money and you could get a decent amp to go along with it for under $300, I would assume. I am sorry about my lack of knowledge when it comes to pricing, but I would imagine you could get a pretty nice setup for $500 or less. I would recommend you check out a reputable shop in your area and/or look at or call Crutchfield. Hope at least some of this helps. Good luck.
