04 4Runner ticking under heavy accel

I have a 4.0L 2004 4Runner, sounds like a ticking almost like an exhaust leak during heavy acceleration. I can't hear it at idle, is this normal?

Mine does this too. Always has. I think its the manifold but it hasn't gotten any worse so I'm not messing with it. Those manifold bolts look rotten.

Glad I'm not the only one then, my manifold is the same way ill take it to a muffler shop before I try doing that myself. Have you done the carbon filter delete?

Mine does the same especially if the motor gets bogged down. Example: mashing the gas right after it's shifted up a gear.

Glock 19 that's exactly how mine is, I'm not going to worry to much about it the since it sounds like a common problem, just wanted to make sure I wasn't the only one because I just bought it a week ago, I love the car so I think I can learn to tune it out.

I think I'm going to take my charcoal filter out and see what it does, can't hurt, I just wanted to see if it was a waste of time or not.

My 04 SR5 V6 had the same tick, did it from the time it was new until I traded it at 100k miles from what I remember reading is it is just an injector tick and my 03 Limited V8 had the same cracked manifold issue. I don't ever remember hearing about V6 manifolds cracking.

The injectors are rather loud on the 4.0L's and most Toyotas in general. They tend to be a bit quieter than other brands and the injectors seem to be a bit more noticable. Though you'll find this true on a lot of modern cars as the engines are much quieter these days than they were 10 years ago.
