04 front door tweeter

anyone ever try to fit some 3.5 2 way speaker in the stock tweeter location on the from door? I think they would sound pretty sweet their! they would really bring the sound up . I was thinking of getting some Alpine SPR 176A component for the bottom and custom fit some 3.5 2way where the tweeter is to bring the image up for better stageing. what do you think?

Would a 3.5" speaker fit there? Seems to be rather large for the space.....

You'd have to create your own mount. I just took the existing tweeter and ripped out the speaker. Then I secured my tweeter in the hole.

Yes you need to remove your door skin, in order to answer your own question. There are two screws to remove first. One is inside of the arm-rest. Pop the top of the arm-rest up to access it. And the other is behind the door handle. Pop the plastic cover out to access this one. Then start at the bottom of the door skin. Grab it and pull out.

Not sure what you have planned for the speakers in the rear but with 6.5" or 6x9s and the 3.5" in the front doors make sure to balance it out with something LARGE in the back.

Part of the problem with the factory setup is that its not balanced correctly...it seems to have way to much coming out of the front doors and dash and nothin' from the rear.

If you do it post photos, I'd love to see what you come up with.

Just remember that this is no afternoon job. I spend several hours modifying the speakers to make them fix exactly the way I had planned. The original speakers are molded into very thick plastic adapters. I drew a template on my computer. Then printed it out and rubber cemented it onto a fiberboard; to cut it out with a jigsaw. This allowed me to make my own adaptors. Just remove the door skins first, then plan out what you need to do. Looking at the way Toyota mounted the originals will alter any previous plans you may have. Also look at Br1ck’s photos. You will get a better idea of what I am trying to tell you.

It didn't take me too long at all to work the speakers. As you can see/read in my description, I actually cut the cones and voice coil assembly out of the original speakers into to use the thick plastic as my new speaker's trim.
