04 JBL/Nav Systems speaker impedance??

Does anyone know FOR SURE what the impedance is for the factory

I have an 03 limited with the JBL 10 speaker system and the front door speakers are 2.9 ohms, the rear door speakers are 2.6 ohms according to the labels on the back of each speaker (I have them sitting in front of me).

Strange! So that means I could install my 4ohm MB Quarts and not hurt the amp. I guess then the only question is will they sound better than the factory ones? Hmmm.........

Nope, don't count on it. The factory speakers are fine speakers and not the first thing you should consider to get better sound out of your system. Start with the HU. It makes very little power, as you can see with the 2.9 ohm rating speakers. Auto manufactures do not want exposure to blowin people's ear drums, (especially Toyota which run's a tight ship) so they limit the output on most common systems. Actually Harmon Kardon does it for them, but that's getting on a tangent.

The bottom line is the HU and amp - they are crap and no matter what you do, your stuck with crap unless you get rid of crap and replace it with something better like what I did.

I pulled the system out of my pathfinder and installed it in my 04 sport recently. My HU is Nakamichi CD700 - do a google search on this and you will see it is a very precision piece, nothing else can even remotely come close to the sound reproduction it creates, no alpine, no eclipse, etc. I run it to 3 JL Audio amps which in turn run MB Quart QSD separates in the front among others.

I wasn't happy with the sound at this point, so I ripped out the MB Quart's, the Boston's in the rear and threw the stock JBL's back in. I was surprised at first at how good the sound increased, the difference in sound was amazing, the potential of these stock speakers when you run a clean signal with clear amplification and watts is great. They were designed for the contours/acoustics of the vehicle. They just need som goo clean power.

For now I am very happy with the set up, although I will be experimenting with different crossovers to more accurately tap into the parameters of the stock speakers.
