04 Limited audiophile ideas

Ok I am going to go at this little project in a phased approach. I hope to keep the stock head unit and Nav but want better sound. In my garage I have the components from my old SQ System. I have 2 Soundstream Class-A Amps 600W, 1 Dennon 50Wx2 Amp, Audio Control 3rd Oct stereo EQ/X-Over, 1 set of MB Quart 5.25 Reference Separates, 1 set of JL Audio 6" woofers for Mid-Bass and 1 Boston Acoustics Pro Series 10" Sub. I hope to add all of this into the stock head unit and get better sound while maintaining the stock Nav and controls and Factory looking Dash.

What do you think of my idea? How would you suggest I get signal inputs for my amps out of the stock head unit?

That sounds good overall. I'm not sure where you plan on using the JL woofers. You could probably use then in the rear if you got a matching tweeter / crossover set (or you could leave the rear w/o). A lot of people don't like rear speakers and swear that it ruins sound quality up front. I use them. To wire the amps, all you need is a line output converter for front and one for the rear. These are inexpensive and easy to use.

I was planning on putting the 6" JL Audio Mid Bass Drivers in the rear doors. I would go without tweeters back there for the reasons you site. If I want them I can always add them later. Are there any line converters that are better than others? I know sound quality suffers with them no mater what.

This is the only one that I have ever used. It is made by audiolink. They are probably all about the same, but this one seems like better quality compared to others I've seen. You can usually get places to throw them in for free when ordering other stuff. Sound quality may suffer compared to a fully aftermarket system, as you said, but will be so much better than now that you probably will not care.
